Today, I'd like to introduce a simple yet effective method for those whose TOEIC scores have hit a plateau.
That method is to "give up on questions you don't know within 20 seconds." You really need the
courage to let go!!
You might think, "Is that really it?" but this is incredibly important. Let me explain why.😊
⏱️ Let's calculate the time for the Reading section
The TOEIC Reading section has 100 questions in 75 minutes.
A simple calculation shows that the time you can spend on one question is 45 seconds on average.
If you spend a minute on one question, you will definitely not finish in time. Part 7, in particular, has a large volume of text and takes time. If you spend too much time on Parts 5 and 6, you will run out of time for Part 7. I often hear people say they had to just fill in bubbles randomly at the end!

This strategy is especially effective for Parts 5 and 6.
The reason is simple.
Parts 5 and 6 mostly test your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
If you don't know that grammar or vocabulary, it's difficult to get the answer right no matter how much you think about it. Whether you worry for 30 seconds or a minute, if you don't know it, you don't know it.
So, what should you do?
If you don't know the answer after thinking for 20 seconds, mark it randomly and move on.
That's all. Stop wasting time worrying and use that time for Part 7 instead. This is the shortcut to a higher score.

Even without knowledge of grammar or vocabulary, there are many questions where you can find the correct answer if you read the text carefully. In other words, there are many questions you can get right if you just have the time.
Rather than spending time on questions you don't know in Parts 5 and 6 and getting them wrong, you will increase your total score by spending that time carefully in Part 7 to get the answers right.

When you encounter a question you don't know while solving Part 5 or 6, start your timer immediately
If you can't find the answer after thinking for 20 seconds, mark an answer at random and move on
Make sure to leave enough time for Part 7
In Part 7, focus on finding the answers within the text
