Tomomi Sato Appears! We Held a Book Club for 'I Want to Work in Writing' at Web Writer Lab!
We hold a book club on a regular basis.
Last time, we read 'Shoot in Three Lines' by Kotaro Kondo!
This time, we chose 'I Want to Work in Writing' by writer Tomomi Sato as our assigned book.
Satoyumi-san is the mentor of Masahiro Nakamura, the owner of Web Writer Lab.
Furthermore, it is also a memorable book that I read two years ago when I aspired to become a writer.
I chose this book because I really wanted to share this excellent work with everyone.
And there is a reason why I hold these book clubs.
When I was writing intensely as a writer, I was so focused on client work that I couldn't really find time for input. I would always prioritize work, and I couldn't find time to study.
Perhaps the members are also overwhelmed with work. If I plan this as an event within the Lab, it might become an opportunity for input.
Words said to me by Lily-san at the last book club.
For writers, 'writing' and 'reading' are a set.
These words resonated with me, and I have been holding the book club every two months. Because reading time is essential for writing.
As I was planning and promoting it with that sentiment, a miracle happened this time too!
When I was announcing the book club on X, the author, Tomomi Sato, stepped forward and said she would participate!!!
Moreover, just like last time, it became a special session where even editor Lily-san joined in. It's just too amazing (crying).
Both the members and the management were overjoyed.
Miracles really do happen at book clubs.
And then, the day of the book club.
When editor Lily-san and Satoyumi-san appeared while members were joining one after another on screen, I felt so lightheaded (lol).
I never imagined I would be able to talk to them...
As a result of having them answer my questions, I was able to hear these things.
The predecessor to 'I Want to Work in Writing' was different
It was written using a different method than ever before
At first, 190,000 characters were written
Every word felt so special. I was given a glimpse behind the scenes of the writing process.
Moreover, the close bond between Satoyumi-san and Lily-san was wonderful. It was clear how much they trust each other.
From Lily-san's
interacting with the vibe of a school festival
comment, I could picture the two of them interacting in such a friendly, lively way.
Then, we headed to breakout rooms to share our thoughts.
Currently, I am not working as a writer.
However, I love writing like this.
Every day, I gain my own insights and discoveries, and writing them on note is my reason for living. Satoyumi-san also wrote about that joy in the 'Introduction to Chapter 5'.
Whether it has value or not doesn't matter anymore. Whether you have talent, or whether you're good or bad at it, doesn't matter either. People die while they're busy fussing over things like that, and since we're going to die anyway, whether you're good or bad at it is mostly just a trivial matter, right?
Writing is just that much fun. It's a joy. I love writing, and I have been supported by writing.
I was able to look back on my whole life and think about pursuing what I truly want to write toward the future.
Finally, we all took a group photo!

To the Lab members who participated.
Satoyumi-san and Lily-san.
Kako-san and Kurumi-san, who provided support.
Thank you all so much!
We are planning to hold the next book club in November.
The assigned book will be the new work by Yurari-san, who is an instructor at the Lab! We plan to have her appear in person for a Q&A and a mini-interview.
I decided to become a web writer two years ago because I saw Yurari-san's Instagram.
After two years, I feel deeply moved to be able to host an event together.
Let's all celebrate the release of Yurari-san's book and learn from it!
I'm looking forward to it already.
Please be sure to join us!
