Writing the 'Audio Commentary' of Life on Note
Movies and TV dramas have “audio commentary.” That feature where the director and cast talk about this and that behind the scenes while the main story unfolds.
“That scene actually took 10 takes,” or “This part was improvised.” Things like that.
What if life had an audio commentary, too?
——For example, when your boss at work asks, “How are things going lately?”
My public self: “Everything is going great!”
Audio commentary: “No, no, no, I was working until 2:00 AM last night, wasn't I!? If anything, I was breaking into a cold sweat just a moment ago, too!?”
——When you’re chatting with a friend at a cafe while drinking a stylish latte.
My public self: “Things are going well with him right now! That’s great!”
Audio commentary: “But wait, isn't it a bit risky that he only replies with stickers every time...?”
——When you’re gazing blankly out the train window and suddenly remember a past choice.
My public self: “Well, that was the best path to take.”
Audio commentary: “But if I had made a different choice back then, I wonder where I’d be now...?”
This gap between my 'public self' and my 'audio commentary self' lurks everywhere in daily life. I write about this “other story” on Note.
Life might look like it’s progressing simply from the outside, but there are definitely “inner whispers” and “behind-the-scenes dramas” that only the person involved knows about.
I read Notes from many different people, and there are so many who write about those “inner whispers” that only the person involved knows, and it’s truly interesting to read.“inner whispers”
There are thoughts and struggles that person has which aren't visible in the main story of their life.
I grew up in Kyoto, the home of “honne and tatemae” (true feelings and public facade), until I started working, so I think that’s probably why I like it even more. Everyone is living their lives while feeling all sorts of things~
A Note I read at 4:00 AM
“#WhatAreYouTalkingAbout” (#なんのはなしですか) is a phrase I encountered about a month after I started writing on Note.
When I looked it up out of curiosity, it seemed interesting, so I tagged a few of my posts with it as well. However, I didn't know at all about the origin of the phrase or what kind of thoughts the founder, Konishi Kinoko-san, had while continuing her activities.
In the midst of that, this morning at 4:00 AM, I happened to come across this Note by Konishi-san on X, read it, and was deeply moved. It’s incredibly interesting. Also, the rhythm of the writing is pleasant.
I think #WhatAreYouTalkingAbout is packed with everyone’s life audio commentary. These are stories that wouldn't get the spotlight socially, but it’s precisely those stories that can suddenly lighten someone’s heart or quietly encourage them.
It has become a place that properly gives them a stage to stand on. What a wonderful world~~! Shout
Turning your audio commentary into your own channel
From the perspective of a super cheerful person, they might say with a straight face, “What are you even talking about?”, but everyone must have an audio commentary.
Since even the Kohaku Uta Gassen has one.
You have one, right?
I believe that whether we notice and articulate things in life or completely ignore them changes the scope of human thought. There are things that only become visible or can be organized because I put them into writing like this, and I think that is what makes humans interesting.
Precisely because we live in an age where AI is widespread,
stories that are interesting to read are 'stories that AI would be jealous of'.
Humans seem interesting, don't they? If we don't make ChatGPT think that, the meaning of humans writing text will continue to diminish. That is why I write about sensations, experiences, and perspectives that only I can tell, rather than information that anyone can access.
It is '#WhatAreYouTalkingAbout' that picks up such words, and I want to be grateful for having encountered it.
The place that picks up such words is ' #WhatAreYouTalkingAbout ', and I want to be grateful for having encountered it.
As someone who becomes a lost cat every day, I will continue to write my 'audio commentary' on note while asking, 'What are you talking about?'
And I'll be sure to sneak a peek at your audio commentary too 🫶🏻
