#23  " While this is very true in most respects, and particularly as regards tangible and concrete institutions,  the statement,  as applied to fundamental ethical notions, requires some modification;   for  Bushido, the maker and product of Old Japan, is still the guiding principle of the transition and will prove the formative force of the new era.

私の訳：この言葉は多くの点に於いて、特に明白で具体的な諸制度に関しては大変適切であるが、これを根本的な倫理観念に応用する時には若干の修正を要する。 何故ならば日本の建設者であり、かつその所産である武士道は現になお過渡的日本の指導原理であり、そしてまた新時代の形成力であることを実証するであろうから。
