What came out of the hole? 😂
When you have a tooth extracted, it's only natural that
a "hole" will open in your gums.
It's the hole where the root of the tooth used to be.
The larger the root, the larger the hole.
This is normal, so don't be scared! Haha.
Since there's a hole, generally speaking,
we have patients come in the day after an extraction for a "wound cleaning" and a check-up.
The other day, a junior dental hygienist (in her second year)
came up to me laughing and said this:
"The patient I was just cleaning said they had just eaten lunch, so there might be something stuck in there. When I checked, two pieces of pasta about 2cm long came out!"
She said that!!
"Since two pieces of pasta came out, the atmosphere got super awkward, but the pasta was still intact! 🤣"She was laughing even harder.
Well, it happens, but having the pasta come out completely intact is pretty rare, haha.
Since things often get stuck in the hole left by an extraction, we always have to tell patients to rinse their mouths well!
Ahem,
in this exchange,
as a senior, I have a lesson to teach.
The reason patients come in with things stuck in their teeth even though they might suspect it is
"because they haven't noticed."If they had noticed it was stuck, they definitely would have removed it.
If they had noticed it was stuck, they definitely would have removed it.
This time it was an extraction hole, but even when things are stuck between teeth, they come in without noticing.
If you notice it, you'd remove it, right? Especially before going to the dentist.
It's not that they can't help it because they don't notice,
it's because they don't notice that it's important to use floss and interdental brushes!
It's important to do it so you can notice!
Dental hygienists have the role of conveying this.
While I was giving this guidance,
my junior was laughing, so it seems the director's wife thought we were slacking off,
and she glared at us 😂
Oh, that was scary! Haha.
