When should you replace your toothbrush?
A common question I get from patients is
"How often should I replace my toothbrush?"
I think many people follow the advice from a commercial that said,
If you look at the back of the toothbrush and the bristles look frayed, it's time to replace it!
So, many people might be doing just that.
Well, actually...
/
The problem is that you're brushing with enough force to fray the bristles in the first place!
\
What I recommend is
/
Replacing it once a month
\
However,
/
This assumes that the bristles are not frayed even after a month of use.
\
The basic rule is: replace it because the bristles have lost their springiness,
even if they still look straight!
is the standard.
So, everyone, let's decide for yourselves
which day of the month you will replace it.
The 1st of every month is fine!
Or payday!
Or your birthday!
Anything works.
Let's pick a day you won't forget.
For the patients I see who are a married couple, I suggest
/
I recommend using your wedding anniversary!❤︎
\
I tell them this with the sentiment of,
"Remember this as your toothbrush replacement DAY, and stay happy as a couple!❤︎"When I suggested this,
believe it or not,
I had a couple who told me their wedding anniversary is June 4th, Cavity Prevention Day!😂
What are the odds of that!?I laughed, but they said it really is June 4th!😂
The M couple decided
that the 4th of every month is their toothbrush replacement DAY🪥
When I talk about this,
people often ask me back,
"Is the wedding anniversary the day you registered your marriage? Or the day of the wedding ceremony?"
which is
a common occurrencelol
