You say something mysterious happened!?
A male patient in his 70s came in,
and the first thing he said,
referring to the title,
“Something mysterious happened.”
He is not my regular patient,
and he often comes in when his gums swell and hurt irregularly.
I saw him for the first timeduring his last monthly maintenance,
and it was a situation where
I happened to be his hygienist
for two consecutive months.
“What do you mean by mysterious?”
“What happened?”
I was
worried,so I asked him.
“Since I saw you last time, 💦what is mysterious?
Did something different happen from your usual gum pain?”
When I said that,
he opened his eyes 👀 wide, and further
“The bleeding I’ve had for so longwhen brushing my teeth has stopped!
It’s truly mysterious and I’m surprised!”
he said.
No, that’s because...
“You accepted the brushing method I taught you, tried it,and continued to use that method.
That means
your gums have improved!
It is the result of your hard work!”
That is what it is.
I told him this, but
“No, for decades until now, this has never happened,
and I never thought such a day would come.
I can’t believe it!
For the first week, just as you said,
it was still bleeding.
But I kept at it and it stopped.
It’s mysterious.”
he still says, haha.
“I was just the catalyst.
Improvement only happens when you can consistently say, ‘I did my brushing!’”
Even when I told him that, he was still surprised, haha.
And when I looked inside his mouth,
compared to last time, his brushing
has improved dramatically 👏
Of course, the bleeding periodontal gums
would improve.
/
This is it, really
\
However, the fact that he has severe periodontal disease
remains unchanged,
and it hasn’t been cured in this one month.
It has started to improve a little.
When I brush his teeth again,
he says, “It really is different,” and
there are still places that bleed.
Even so, when he rinses his mouth after cleaning at the clinic,
the amount of bleeding has decreased dramatically.
The patient is still surprised,
but I am incredibly happy 😃
This person is a “musician,” and
“If I lose my teeth, I won’t be able to play,
so I absolutely need my teeth.”
As I wrote on note before,
it seems you can’t play instruments without teeth.
He was coming to the clinic thinking,
“I have to do something or it’ll be bad,” but
what is more important than coming to the clinicis that he was able to brush his teeth every day.
It is to continue that.
Periodontal disease is not something you cure at a dental clinic.
Brushing at home has an overwhelming impact.
I want him to realize the path to getting better.
If I can be the catalyst for that,
I am happy 😃
