The 'End-of-Life Planning' Scene in the Final Episode of 'Berabou'
The NHK Taiga drama 'Berabou' was so interesting, but it has already ended. In the scene before Tsutaya Juzaburo's death, his wife Tei (played by Ai Hashimoto) reveals that the handover documents were already completed before Tsutaju (played by Ryusei Yokohama) could even bring it up. Not just for work, but even for his posthumous Buddhist name and the words to be engraved on his tombstone.
It was the perfect end-of-life plan. It couldn't have been any better.
I have always said that
an ending note is a handover document
, and that scene was exactly like a visual representation of that. If an ending note is a handover document, then
end-of-life planning is the handover itself
.
End-of-life planning is the process of handing over everything related to your life to the next person as much as possible.
It is the same as handing over your duties when you quit a job, transfer, or move. It's so that the people who come after you aren't troubled. So that current operations don't stall. If you take it even further, it's so that they can reaffirm, 'Ah, this person's work (life) was truly amazing.'.
When you think of it that way, end-of-life planning is actually quite a good thing.
