92. The word 'inheritance' is actually a Buddhist term - Read in 2 minutes: Shukatsu (End-of-life planning), the very first step🐾 Simple Shukatsu Manual
When people talk about inheritance, the focus often tends to be on the negative aspects, such as bloody battles or 'inheritance disputes,' but the word 'inheritance' (sozoku) originally comes from Buddhist terminology.
A continuity of discontinuity. This is inheritance.

What on earth does that mean?
Yes, I know. According to the Mini Dictionary of Buddhist Terms in Daily Life, Vol. 2 (Text: Keijun Tsujimoto, Hongwanji Publishing),
Buddhism teaches that all phenomena are impermanent, changing and arising and ceasing in every instant, but this flow is said to be continuous.
Now, imagine a candle flame here. The flame itself burns out and ceases in an instant, and immediately after, another flame burns, and because that continues without interruption, it appears as if it is one single flame burning, that is the explanation.
In other words, a continuity of discontinuity. This is inheritance (sozoku), a Buddhist term that appears in various scriptures such as the 'Abhidharmakosha'.
In other words, the meaning of 'continuing without interruption' became the meaning of 'inheriting,' and it came to be used generally as the current word for 'inheritance'.
This means that,
Inheritance is about passing things on.
Since inheritance is a part of end-of-life planning (shukatsu),
naturally, end-of-life planning is also about passing things on.
Passing on your life is incredibly important! It's tough to carry it all by yourself, so please, by all means, pass things on with your family and friends in a 'bright, fun, and rhythmic' way. If there is anything you don't understand, please feel free to ask me, an end-of-life planning expert.
