87. The Legal Affairs Bureau can keep your will safe - "End-of-life planning you can read in 2 minutes, the first step 🐾 Simple end-of-life planning manual"
While I was fully focused on the Osaka Expo, a student from my monthly Living Culture Club ending note course (a 4-session series) told me that they
had used the
Holographic Will Storage System.
This holographic will storage system is a helpful system where the Legal Affairs Bureau keeps the will you wrote yourself (for a storage fee of 3,900 yen), and when you pass away, they notify the person you designated in advance. Since probate is not required after the inheritance begins, if you have written a will yourself and are wondering where to store it, it is definitely worth using.
Even though the term 'end-of-life planning' (shukatsu) has become widespread, many people find it hard to see it as something that concerns them personally. I was truly impressed by the mindset of those who pay to learn about end-of-life planning and ending notes while they are still healthy. Since both the student and their younger brother are single, there were significant concerns, so I told them that a will was essential. They apparently wrote a holographic will and deposited it with the Legal Affairs Bureau right away.
According to the student,
Before taking the course, I couldn't write anything even though I had an ending note, but once I realized I needed a will, I decided to at least fill out the necessary sections of the ending note before writing the will, and as a result, I managed to complete more than half of it.

Whether or not you can face end-of-life planning depends heavily on that person's timing and view of life and death, so I think you should proceed at your own pace. In the case of this student, they mentioned that the will served as a catalyst that helped them make great progress on their ending note, so
I really felt that having a catalyst is important.
