Just because there is no inheritance tax doesn't mean there is no inheritance

We don't have that much money, so we don't have an inheritance, right?

To completely overturn that major misconception, I will be speaking at an end-of-life planning seminar titled "Thinking About Inheritance and End-of-Life Planning" on February 6th at the Shiose Public Hall in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture. This is at the request of the Nishinomiya City Consumer Affairs Center.

Inheritance means,

passing on what you currently have to the next person,

so when a person passes away,

an inheritance always occurs. It absolutely occurs.

Unless you are someone who lives naked and floating in mid-air, you definitely have something to pass on. Therefore,

an inheritance occurring

and

inheritance tax occurring

are

different things.

In Japan, even when an inheritance occurs, fewer people are subject to inheritance tax, so it doesn't really hit home unless you are in that position yourself. Based on last year's 2024 results, it was about 10%. In central Tokyo, it was around 20%, which feels like a significant increase. (Please refer to the link below for details.)

Well, if there's no inheritance tax, then I don't need to do anything, right?

To you, the carefree person thinking that, I want to say this loudly:

Just because there is no inheritance tax doesn't mean there won't be any conflict.

In 2024, there were 15,379 cases of inheritance division disputes (so-called "inheritance conflict" cases brought to family court).

Of those, about 76% were,

Households with an inherited estate of 50 million yen or less.

Of these,

about 35% occur in households with 10 million yen or less.

Rather than whether there is money or not, it is now

family relationships that are the main cause

and,if you have surplus funds, I will talk about ways to pass them on advantageously to the working generation who need money nowin a 'bright, fun, and fast-paced' manner as an end-of-life planning financial planner.
