The number of sounds in the words, you see...

• Haiku and Senryu are five-seven-five.

• Tanka is five-seven-five-seven-seven.

• Dodoitsu is seven-seven-seven-five.

It's all five characters and seven characters! It seems that with this number of sounds, the Japanese language sounds pleasant to the ear.
