How a High School Student Built an Exam Management System in Notion with AI

Hello, I am OGUYHADE.

I am a high school student who creates content using AI.

In this post, I will write about the entire process of creating and selling a Notion template called the "Exam and Study Management System."

The Trigger: Studying Without Managing

To be honest, I have always been the type to "study without a clear plan."

I have many reference books. I sit at my desk every day. But,

・How far along am I in the Blue Chart?
・How many hours did I spend on the System English Vocabulary book this week?
・How many days are left until the Common Test?

I couldn't answer these basic questions right away.

I tried recording things in a notebook. I also tried Excel. But it didn't last... Honestly, all these systems are a hassle. Before I knew it, I stopped writing in them.

In short, it became "management for the sake of management," which makes me want to cry.

Even After Discovering Notion, I Initially Failed

I think many people have heard of Notion but think it looks difficult.

Actually, I felt the same way at first. But that's only natural since it's the first time you're using it.

What is a database? What is a relation? What is a rollup?

Even if I looked them up, I didn't really understand... Even if I copied a template, I would get stuck when trying to adapt it to my own needs... Eventually, I stopped using it again... I felt like I was trapped in a negative loop by a trap card.

But one day, I realized I could build it together with AI.

Building It with AI Made It Complete in One Go

"It's faster to have AI teach me while I build than to study it myself."

What a wonderful theory!!!
If I presented this at the UN, I'd surely get a standing ovation.

Once I realized that, I started building the Notion system while using a tool called Claude.

It started with a simple request: "I want to automatically display how many days are left until the exam."

When I told Claude, "I want to create a system in Notion that automatically counts down when I enter an exam date," it taught me the formula I should use.

if(dateBetween(prop("Exam Date"), now(), "days") >= 0, "In " + format(dateBetween(prop("Exam Date"), now(), "days")) + " days", "✅ Finished")

Once I entered this, it started automatically displaying "In 21 days" until the first Common Test mock exam.

Just with this, I thought, "Oh, this is it, I've won. I'm going to take a bath."

Connected three databases

From there, I built it out all at once.

I created three databases.

1. Exam/Mock Exam DB

Just enter the exam name and date.
The "In X days" count updates automatically every day.
Once the exam is over, it switches to "✅ Finished."

My current settings look like this:
・1st Common Test Mock Exam → In 21 days
・2nd National Descriptive Mock Exam → In 98 days
・Actual Common Test → In 216 days

Every morning when I open Notion, I see this. It naturally creates a sense of urgency.

2. Study Log DB

Just record the date, study material, and study time (in minutes).
When you switch to calendar view, you can see at a glance what you did on which day.

Recording takes 30 seconds. The habit of "recording once today's study is done" has naturally taken hold.

3. Study Material Master DB

人人人人人人人人人人人人
<This is the core part!!>
Y^Y^Y^Y^Y^Y^Y^Y^Y^Y

When you enter the "Total Amount (number of pages or problems)" and "Completed Amount" for each reference book, a progress bar is displayed automatically.

Furthermore, since it is connected to the Study Log DB via a relation, every time I record a study log related to "Blue Chart," the "Total Study Time" in the Material Master automatically increases.

I am using a feature called Rollup. I didn't understand it at first, but after AI taught me how to set it up, it worked perfectly on the first try.

Things I realized after finishing it

The biggest change after building this system is that "the hurdle to studying has been lowered"!!! How wonderful.

When management is no longer a hassle, you can focus on the studying itself!

Seeing your records pile up really boosts your motivation!!

Being able to check how many days are left until the exam every morning reduces the time spent slacking off!!!

It's not just about the feeling of 'mastering a management tool,' but a genuine sense that the quality of my exam preparation has improved!!!!
I've already created a perfect loop......

I have released it as a template.

Since I put in the effort to build it, I wanted students facing the same struggles to use it, so I'm selling the template on BOOTH. (Of course, you can use it for regular studying too!!! And I think you could probably use it for work if you get creative with how you use it!!! Though I'm not entirely sure)

[Notion] Exam & Study Management System

(I'm being earnest here, but it would really help me out if you bought it, sob sob sob sob)

Finally

I would be happy if this system could make someone's exam preparation or other studies even a little bit easier.

I also post about exam preparation and Notion usage on X (@OGUYHADE).
It would encourage me if you followed me.

Let's do our best together.
