Former Queen Somratsamee Returns to the Ring, Rival Marie Ruumet Also Returns to Rajadamnern - RWS on October 25th and November 1st, 2025
Former Rajadamnern Stadium Women's Bantamweight Champion Somratsamee Manop Muay Thai Gym competed in RWS (Rajadamnern World Series) at the stadium on October 25th, shutting out Sara Chabni (Morocco) to win by decision. This marked her return to the Rajadamnern ring after about a year.
Somratsamee is a 22-year-old from Chiang Mai, famous for being the first female fighter of the Karen ethnic minority (referred to as "Galian" in Thai). She has built an impressive record, including back-to-back RWS tournament titles in 2022 (Women's Flyweight) and 2023 (Women's Bantamweight), holding the former Rajadamnern Women's Bantamweight title, and achieving the most wins in RWS history (16 wins).
In this article, I would like to introduce the circumstances leading up to Somratsamee's return to the ring, her comeback fight, and the return fight of her rival, Marie Ruumet, who also returned to RWS around the same time.
🔴 From 2024 Tournament Elimination to a Long Hiatus
Somratsamee participated in the 2024 RWS tournament, aiming for a third consecutive title, but was eliminated in the semifinals by Barbara Aguiar (Brazil), ending her 16-fight winning streak.
Somratsamee is a 169cm tall southpaw, known for her sharp attacks from long range and strong close-quarters combat, leaving the impression of a well-balanced fighter. It was difficult for anyone to break her down, but in the first round of the league stage prior to the Barbara fight, she faced Barbara's compatriot Maria Eduarda, where she was nearly knocked down by punches. Although she managed to win that fight by decision, Barbara, nicknamed "The Anaconda," proved to be an even tougher opponent, and Somratsamee succumbed to a decision loss.

Although Somratsamee did not win the RWS league, she retained the Rajadamnern Stadium Women's Bantamweight title, and a rematch with Barbara for the title was eventually expected.
In January of this year, she was scheduled for her second title defense against Estonian challenger Marie Ruumet, but Somratsamee developed gastritis the day before the fight and had to cancel. Subsequently, she vacated her Rajadamnern Women's Bantamweight title.

After vacating the Rajadamnern title, Somratsamee traveled to Slovakia to compete for the WMC title, facing Monika Chochlikova—whom she had defeated in RWS in March 2024—in a rematch, but lost by a 5-round decision. Following the Barbara fight, this marked her second consecutive loss. Somratsamee left the ring for a while after this match, and her name disappeared from the Rajadamnern rankings.
Marie Ruumet, whose title match with Somratsamee was canceled, fought Barbara for the vacant Women's Bantamweight title in February. Although Marie had defeated Barbara in the 2024 RWS tournament, she lost by decision in this rematch. Barbara became the second Women's Bantamweight champion after Somratsamee.
However, in her defense on October 4th, which was a Brazilian showdown against Maria, Barbara unexpectedly missed weight and lost her title without a fight. The Women's Bantamweight title is currently vacant. (The match ended in a 5-round decision win for Barbara.)
🔴 Somratsamee vs. Sara Chabni
Returning to RWS after a year, Somratsamee's record was announced as 70 wins and 10 losses, though it should have been 48 wins and 7 losses. This discrepancy likely depends on whether local matches from her childhood are included. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Sara Chabni was introduced as a Moroccan champion with a record of 5 wins and 2 losses.
The contracted weight was 120 pounds, 2 pounds (0.8 kg) over the bantamweight limit, but Somratsamee's physical sharpness appeared as it was before. Sara swung sharp left and right hooks, but the distance was too far, and they did not land on Somratsamee. By the second round, Sara began breathing heavily. Somratsamee dominated the fight from start to finish with long-range attacks and knees to Sara's body in close quarters.
In the end, Somratsamee defeated Sara Chabni, who kept moving forward without giving up until the end, by a unanimous decision. After returning to the rankings, she is expected to challenge for the new title.
Somratsamee's comments in the post-fight interview were as follows: "I missed this place (Rajadamnern Stadium). It feels like home. Since I just returned and my body hasn't fully recovered, this fight might have been a bit slow. My goal is to reclaim the title. I'm just back, so I'm working hard to maintain my condition. Please support Somratsamee."

🔴 Marie Ruumet vs. Wanfai
Marie, from Estonia, is a 26-year-old nicknamed the "Snow Leopard" with a record of 46 wins and 14 losses. She moved her base of operations to Thailand in 2017 and competed in ONE Championship from 2020 to 2023, where she posted a record of 2 wins and 3 losses. She is 1-1 against Somratsamee, and in February, she challenged Barbara for the vacant title but lost by decision. Her return match since the Barbara fight took place in the RWS ring on November 1. It was a three-round bout at a 115-pound (52.1 kg) catchweight. Her opponent, Wanfai, is from Ubon Ratchathani and has a record of 30 wins, 20 losses, and 10 draws.
From the start of the first round, Marie's sharp, speedy front kicks and middle kicks stood out. Both the punches and kicks delivered from her 167 cm frame carried power. On the other hand, Wanfai responded calmly, watching her movements well and throwing punches. Occasionally, a right hook landed on Marie's face. The first-round scoring was 10-9 for Wanfai by two judges and 10-9 for Marie by one. The second round saw more clinching, with Wanfai noticeably controlling the fight while moving backward. However, all three judges scored it 10-9 for Marie.
In the third round, with the outcome uncertain, a fierce exchange saw Marie's right knee pierce Wanfai's body, causing Wanfai to collapse. Marie won by a one-shot KO. After the match, "I want to have a title fight after getting two or three more matches under my belt," commented Marie, who is currently ranked 13th in the bantamweight division, and a match against the returning Somratsamee is anticipated.
There is no information yet regarding the future of Barbara Aguiar, who lost her women's bantamweight title due to missing weight, following her title match on October 4.
