No. 171 [Anime, Museums, and Affinity] Events of November 28th
There are times when I think that the origin of otaku culture might actually lie in museums.
The world of museums is essentially an extension of collecting various things, and the act of anime fans buying merchandise and displaying it in their rooms is no different from what museums do, just on a different scale and in a different location. Furthermore, the act of adding commentary and interpretation to those items (works) is also truly museum-like. I feel that such people could probably call themselves curators (though one does need to obtain a qualification to be a curator).
Currently, Isesaki City is holding a collaboration event with an anime.
When fans from both inside and outside the prefecture visit our museum and we talk, I feel that their attitude toward listening is different. Perhaps because they are people with intellectual curiosity about the subject, they show interest, and some even ask questions.
Interacting with these people makes me feel that the world of anime actually has a high affinity with museums.
The photo shows a cup that was used in a certain anime. The phenomenon where the world of anime becomes a real-life product is quite interesting.
To borrow a line from this anime,
"Are you enjoying your time in ISESAKI?"
The collaboration event runs until the 21st, so please enjoy your time in Isesaki. We will strive to stir your intellectual curiosity.
Now, which anime is it? If you know, please leave a comment♪
