“cakes note FES ‘18” Day 1 Report #cakesnotefes
So that everyone can start creating and keep going.
With that theme in mind, “cakes note FES” was held over two days, June 29th and 30th.
We welcomed a total of over 400 people, including those who write, draw, and read on cakes and note.
A total of 28 creators active on cakes and note took the stage, and for five hours, they discussed creating on cakes and note from their own unique perspectives! Here is the report for the first day.
The first speakers for the cakes note FES talk sessions were Sadaki Kato, CEO of Piece of Cake, which operates cakes and note, and Takayuki Fukatsu, representative of THE GUILD and CXO of Piece of Cake, for the “note Improvement Report”.

Since welcoming Fukatsu-san as CXO (Chief Experience Officer) in October 2017, note has undergone countless improvements. The number of these improvements reaches over 100.
So that everyone can start creating and keep going.Under this theme, we decided on three rules.
Contents Power (attracting good creators)
Findability (good articles are found and reach people)
Continuity (creators can keep writing their work, and readers can visit again)
We are promoting improvements to note with the intention of creating an atmosphere and culture where people feel safe and want to continue.
By iterating on the service in small steps as much as possible to check the reactions of creators, the number of read note articles has increased 2.7 times in the last six months, and SEO has also improved, leading to a 3x increase in search traffic.
Also, thanks to the improvement that allows authors to see responses when someone presses the 'Like' button, the probability of a post receiving at least one 'Like' has increased by 40%, and now over 75% of posts receive at least one 'Like'. Isn't it becoming a place where creators want to keep creating?
Regarding the publishing partnership that introduces note creators to publishers, stories about books that have been decided for publication were shared, and it was announced that in addition to the 3 companies already decided, we are partnering with 18 more companies.
There is no doubt that this system will play a role in picking up excellent talent within note and increasing their opportunities!
Next was a talk session on the theme of “On engineers sharing information.” with engineers Issei Yamamoto and Rui Ueyama.

This became the most technical talk session of the cakes note FES, filled with terms that might be difficult for those who don't know the deep world of computers. It was a time where one could feel the commonalities between that world and “sharing information”.
Issei Yamamoto is an engineer famous for creating the shogi program 'Ponanza', which defeated a master. Since he and Kato-san are friends, they had a casual exchange that even had the venue laughing.
Yamamoto-san says he started posting articles on note to convey to the world that “artificial intelligence is not scary.” He feels that note is suitable for writing articles about difficult technologies for beginners.
Rui Ueyama is a software engineer at an IT company in Silicon Valley. At the same time, he is involved in open-source activities and is also a student at Stanford. He is a professional in a very niche field, to the point where Fukatsu-san boasted, “Ueyama-san is at the extreme end of the note engineer community.”
Ueyama-san, who says, “The good thing about the internet is that no matter how maniacal the topic is, there is someone somewhere who will pick it up,” cited the point that “you must show a spirit of service for the reader” as a commonality between writing and programming.
Conveying intentions concisely and accurately is important for both programs and writing, isn't it?
Next on stage were three people: Saku-chan, owner of the cookie shop “SAC about cookies”; Sui-Sui, an essayist who serializes “Menhera Happy Home” on cakes; and Dr. Yusuke, an internist who writes “Monthly Self-Affirmation” together with Saku-chan.

A passionate talk session begins with these three, who seem to be very close friends. The theme is “Being close to worries and continuing to write”.
Since receiving this theme, the three of them say they have been thinking about whether they are truly being supportive.
Suisui-san began by declaring, "Maybe we are being supportive!"
When thinking about the worries sent in by readers, she says she first starts thinking after putting herself in that person's shoes. Precisely because the people they deal with are "menhera" (mentally unstable), they try to convey that "I understand."
In contrast, Saku-chan-san and Dr. Yusuke-san both said, "(We) are not being supportive."
Dr. Yusuke-san says that being supportive means empathizing, and that empathy often doesn't lead to a positive outcome.
Because you have to commit more than family to change from "wanting to die" to "wanting to live," he said that the act of "being supportive" is a very high hurdle.
Also, Saku-chan-san, feeling that aren't there a lot of useful articles on note lately?, says she tries to write notes where one's personality seeps through in order to protect the other good qualities of note.
She recommended "just writing down whatever you are thinking" because "you won't be happy if you only cut out the useful parts."
It concluded with Saku-chan-san's passionate words to just write on note!
The next speaker was the fortune teller and author, Shiitake.
Suddenly, a Shiitake plush toy was placed on the desk. A beautiful woman and the moderator appeared on stage.

Surprisingly, Shiitake appeared via audio!!
With a deep, gentle voice, he delivered his usual warm message to us.
Shiitake says the reason he decided to start note was because he "wanted to talk about slightly strange things."
He says he likes note because it has an atmosphere of an old late-night TV show where people find it interesting even if you talk about slightly intense topics.

He also used the method of aura reading to tell fortunes about the place called note.
He felt the colors yellow, light blue, and red in note.
Yellow is one of the colors that feels new, indicating that it is a place to announce experiments.
Light blue is the color of reason. It takes a step back and controls the yellow.
These two colors are often seen on platforms where various readers gather, but
the red at the very top is a rare color, and
despite having a strong mindset within themselves, they don't show it. They guide creators in the direction they want to go without speaking up was the point made...!
Director Mizuno, who served as the moderator, spoke with a surprised expression, saying he was happy that it was exposed even though he hadn't broadcasted it.
And now, the final talk session!
As the night deepens, there's a feeling that some quite deep stories are about to begin...!
The speakers were preventive medicine researcher Yoshiki Ishikawa and Eroducer Pointy Saeki.
The talk theme is exactly, "Dr. Yoshiki, can you teach us about Eros scientifically?"!

Facing Saeki-san, who is smiling the whole time, I also find myself smiling for some reason... Under the declaration of "We will only talk about dirty jokes for 40 minutes!", it starts with the story of how the two, who just met recently, met. After exchanging business cards with Pointy-san, spam emails suddenly increased... a newsletter you can't read at the office... it really is just dirty jokes.
Eros, politics, and religion are similar... legendary classes held at Harvard University... it was all shocking talk, but in the end, it was summarized that affairs are bad for your health, so use Panasonic!
With the excitement still high, Day 1 of cakes note Fes ended.
Next, I will report on the morning of Day 2!
