[Love] The Candy Store is a Time Machine | The Day My Son and My 30-Year-Old Self Overlapped
For the first time in a while, I fell in love with that place.

On a holiday afternoon,
I stopped by a small town candy store with my son.
⌛ Falling in love with that place for the first time in a while | A time slip back to childhood in an instant
The nostalgic storefront.
The faded sign.
The moment I stepped inside, a
sweet and slightly dusty scent spread out😊
Just this scent alone
can take you on a
time slip back to childhood in an instant, right?🤭

🍬 What my 5-year-old eldest son clutched | Those were the familiar "two dagashi snacks"
My 5-year-old eldest son
came running over with two snacks clutched in his
small hands.
When I looked, it was
Gaburichu and Umaibo.
And what's more,
the Umaibo was corn potage flavor✨
"…Huh?"
I couldn't help but let out a voice💦
🕰️ Exactly the same as me 30 years ago | The shock of our snack preferences being a "perfect match"
These are
the exact same snacks
I used to beg my mother for when I was a child😂
The sourness of the Gaburichu and
the rich powder of the corn potage Umaibo.
This combination
was my go-to set 30 years ago, wasn't it?🤭
"What's wrong?"
My son looks up at me curiously🤭
"No… these are really delicious, aren't they?"
“Yeah!”
My son smiled broadly and
immediately tried to open the Umaibo.
Oh, wait a second😅

📣 “Wait until we go to the register” | I never thought the day would come when I’d say the same thing as my mother
When I was a kid, I also
used to take a big bite the moment I opened the bag.
I couldn't wait, so
I’d start eating before leaving the store,
and my mother would
“Make sure you pay for it first!”
she’d tell me💦
My son was doing the same thing,
trying to eat before paying,
so I stopped him in a panic😭
“Wait until we go to the register.”
I never imagined the day would come when I’d say the same thing as my mother…😂
(Sorry about that back then, Mom…)
🧬 Gaburichu Gene? | Time repeats in a circle at the candy store
Do children
take after their parents?
It’s not just their faces or personalities,
but maybe even their taste in candy is inheritedtoo🤔
If I did a DNA test,
would a “Gaburichu gene”
show up?😅
Perhaps
my mother,
and her mother before her,
might have bought
Gaburichu just the same…
And perhaps they
chose the corn potage flavorof Umaibo
just the same✨
In the small space of a candy store,
time repeats itself in a circle.
That’s just how I felt😊

🌿 A Time Machine Connecting Parent and Child | Do you have a candy from your childhood memories?
After we finished paying and left the store,
my son immediately took a big bite of his Umaibo👍
With corn potage powder all around his mouth,
he laughs and says, "It's delicious!" 😊
Seeing that face,
my heart felt warm somehow.
I'm sure I must have
had that same look on my face 30 years ago!
My mother,
must have been looking at that face
with the same feelings I have now...
"Do you want some too, Dad?"
My son
held out an Umaibo for me.
"Thank you."
When I took a bite,
that nostalgic taste filled my mouth ✨
Gaburichu, Umaibo, and the repeating cycle of time.
The candy store
might just be a time machine that connects parents and children🌿
