A story about how I became able to set goals that are neither too high nor too low, moving away from safe targets
When I decided on this month's goals yesterday,
I thought, maybe I've changed.
Without even realizing it, I set numbers that were just a little bit challenging (lol).
In the past, I could only set goals that I knew I wouldn't fail at.
Now, I've become able to take on "just right" challenges
that I can reach if I stretch myself.
I'd like to share why I've become able to set challenging goals.
I hope this will be helpful
for those who struggle with setting goals that are neither too high nor too low.
How I used to set goals | Choosing a very safe zone
Until two months ago, I used to set my goals
in a verysafe zone.
The reason was simple:
I didn't want to feel down about not achieving them.
Sometimes I even wondered,
is there any point in setting them?
But for me,
I'm the type who gets discouraged by pressure
when I set high goals.
Conversely,
if setting them that way makes you feel motivated and excited,
then I think that approach is just fine.
How to set goals is different for everyone.
Especially if it's something you're doing for the first time,
setting them at a sure-fire level and experiencing "I can do this!" over and over
is a very healthy way to lead to the next step.
Especially if you are in an environment where irregularities are likely to occur,
you can create a safe cycle
without undermining your confidence.
This time, it was "content I had done before"
The reason I changed how I set my goals this time was because
I had done it before and knew how much I could do accordingly.
I had previously been able to make 7 comment visits a day
If I include comments on my own articles, I can expect a little more
I have more regulars now than when I achieved that
In this state, I might be able to do it.
Instead of making it a "promise I must keep," let's make it a "number I'd be happy to achieve."
7 visits a day is an odd number... (laughs)
Shall I try for a nice round 10?
That's what I asked myself.
I felt like I might be able to trust myself and leave it to me.
The foundation of trust is just records
Saying I trust myself sounds cool, but
it's not like I turned into a "capable person" in a month or two.
It's just that
I became able to think based on the records I've kept
.
I haven't been doing comment visits every single day (laughs)
There were ups and downs.
The content of the records
also includes things that didn't go well.
"It was fun to read, but it took time"
"I read it thoroughly, but it was a waste not to write a comment"
"I have the desire to do it, but it's stressful that I can't move"
Conversely speaking,
Feeling anxious without records,
and having discrepancies in how you set goals,
are both perfectly natural things.
I don't think it means you lack courage
or have a low spirit for challenges.
It's just that you don't have enough information to make a judgment yet.
To make it easier to take on challenges, keep the rules loose.
You don't have to do it all at once
It's okay to split it up between morning, noon, and evening
Mixing new tasks with routine ones is fine
Work hard for three days, then take one day off
If you can't achieve it for three days, lower the goal
If you can't achieve it,
it's okay to lower the level immediately.
This time,
it's not a project,
nor do I plan to use it as material for a paid article.
No one will be inconvenienced.
I intend to adjust it
according to my own situation and those around me.
Updated my self-assessment
Regarding goal setting,
the biggest change, I think, is in how I treat myself.
I tried raising my self-assessment,
expecting that I might be able to do a little more.
Just tentatively, though.
If there's a reason I can do it,
I'll have expectations and set it a bit higher.
If I try it and it seems impossible, I'll make the decision to lower it.
While keeping records,
I will try to find the sweet spot.
Thank you for reading this far.
I also decided on a goal for the number of Threads posts
for this month.
I had been in super energy-saving mode for over a month, posting just once a day.
I'll make it 2 posts😂
(I'm still the type who can't take risks (lol))
With that said,
I'll be sure to drop by and read your articles too.
Looking forward to working with you in January as well🙏
Well then,
see you in the next article.
