[Video Ver.] Compass for "How to Live" Vol. 15: "Thinking" and "Heart"
Hello everyone! This is paper counselor Yoshiyuki.
First of all.
Kishakoku-sensei featured my article.
I hope that even one more person will be able to choose a happy interpretation for themselves♪
Kishakoku-sensei, thank you as always!
Now, let's get into the main topic.
I have turned the "Thinking" and "Heart" text article I posted previously into a video.
Below is the re-edited text article.
Hello everyone!
This time, the topic is about "Thinking" and the "Heart".
I can almost hear some of you saying, "Thinking and the heart, aren't they basically the same thing, even if the words are different?"
Actually, the "self" we think of tends to be strongly dominated by our thinking.
The "thinking" that we mistake for our "self" or "mind" is said to be only half of the heart.
The other half is the "heart," which is responsible for feeling.
Thinking has contributed to the development of human civilization by allowing us to think logically and perform calculations.
It is an essential brain function for humans.
However, this thinking also possesses the function of judging.
A common occurrence is judging other people.
We often tend to judge others unconsciously.
If the criteria for that judgment were based on common sense, it might be fine, but
if you judge people based on your own slightly biased values, it could cause cracks in your relationships.
"So-and-so is doing something like that. I can't forgive them!"
"Because of you, I had a bad experience!"
Aren't these common stories?
Thinking assigns meaning to events and links them to things like good or bad, right or wrong, and likes or dislikes.
Depending on the situation, this could be called a negative aspect of thinking, couldn't it?
On the other hand, the heart is the feeling mind.
Happy, joyful, blissful, amazing, sad, frustrated,
or information felt through the five senses, such as hot, cold, delicious, dazzling, noisy, or the smell of something.
Thinking assigns meaning to events and environments, which then generates emotions.
As a result, you may sometimes fall into the feeling that you are being swayed by events and your environment.
What do you think?
I think you can see how much you are dominated by "thinking," which occupies half of your heart.
Is there a way to escape from this domination?
Let's ask a question.
Tell me, who is the protagonist of your own life?
It might sound like a strange question, but isn't the true protagonist your "heart"?
Could it be that, right now, your "thinking" has become the protagonist?
You should only use the good parts of "thinking."
Using it to think logically and constructively is a given, isn't it?
When it starts to judge people, you need to put a stop to it.
As I mentioned last time, when "thinking" assigns meaning and negative emotions arise, it is good to feel those emotions thoroughly.
"Oh, I'm angry right now." "I'm starting to feel sad."
When you do that, in many cases, you will be freed from the spell of "thinking."
When you feel your own "heart,"
what you truly, truly, truly want to do and what is important to you will become visible.
In many cases, those are things that bring joy to others and fulfill you as well.
Once you find that, you will have a happy life.
However, that is different for everyone, and you have to search for it yourself.
It is not something that is given to you.
That is why,
try to cherish your "heart" more.
Someday, somewhere, you will find that thing that makes you say, "This is it!"
Look closely at your true self,
try to feel it well.
What do you think?
Shall we have Maki-chan share a message with everyone as well?
Yes! Then, I, Maki Tsurumaki, will share it with everyone.
We tend to think that what we have reasoned out with our thoughts is correct, or that it is fine as it is.
Because what you think of with your mind isn't everything.
There are things that cannot appeal to people's hearts with logic alone.
Those are the things that are truly important.
They are things that are never visible to the eye.
By the way, in my case, something like this happened.
When I started working as an instructor for human resource development at a company, I felt that the hearts of the students were not fulfilled.
So, thinking I wanted something for reference, I stopped by a bookstore, and I felt like I faintly heard, or maybe didn't hear, a voice in my heart saying, "This book."
Well, perhaps it's closer to say that I felt like someone was saying it, rather than hearing it?
I picked up that book once and flipped through the pages.
But, you know, I didn't buy that book at that time.
A week later, for some reason, I stopped by the same bookstore.
I picked up the book again, and for some reason I don't know, I bought it without hesitation.
You might not believe it, but,
that book became one that has had a huge influence on who I am today.
It's a mysterious event, isn't it?
I wonder if it's an event called synchronicity?
This time, the topic was about "thinking" and the "heart."
Thank you for staying with us until the end.
We have received some "happy news!"
We are grateful for your warm support.
Thank you, as always!
