Compass for a "Way of Life" Vol. 107
Embrace your emotions.
Hello everyone! This is Yoshiyuki, the paper counselor.
First of all,
my article was introduced by Kishakoku-sensei.
I am always grateful to Kishakoku-sensei.
Through #Shakasen, I hope that more people will become broad-minded enough to listen to others' opinions rather than just pushing their own.
Thank you very much, Kishakoku-sensei!
Now, let's get to the main topic.
This time, I will be talking about embracing your emotions.
We tend to treat ourselves poorly without realizing it.
"I'm so useless..."
"I did it again! How stupid am I?"
"I hate myself like this."
How about that?
I think many people think things like this unconsciously, don't they?
This is what it means to "treat yourself poorly."
Why don't you try to cherish yourself more?
This does not mean doing whatever you want or being selfish to the point of causing trouble for those around you.
In other words, it means facing your emotions firmly, accepting what you feel as it is, and embracing it.
Specifically, how can you do that?
You know, do you know about self-compassion?
For example, if someone important to you were going through a hard time, what kind of words would you say to them?
"It's going to be okay."
"That must have been hard for you."
"You've been through a lot."
Something like that, wouldn't you encourage or comfort them?
But, don't you think you don't say those kinds of words to yourself?
As I mentioned at the beginning,
"I'm so useless..."
"I did it again! How stupid am I?"
"I hate myself like this."
Those are the kinds of words, right?
You know, if you said words like these...
to someone important to you, what would happen?
Or, if someone you trust said to you,
"You really are a useless person, aren't you?"
"You did it again? You're stupid, aren't you?"
"There are many people who hate you, you know."
How would you feel if someone said that to you?
You think it's "terrible," don't you?
But tell me, haven't you become a "terrible person" to yourself?
So, offer the same words of encouragement and comfort to yourself that you would to someone you care about.
Value yourself just as much as you value those dear to you.
It's not just for when things are painful or difficult.
It's also for when you've accomplished something.
"I'm amazing! I made it this far!"
"I'm great! I worked really hard!"
Praise and acknowledge yourself like that.
In this way, embrace, acknowledge, and encourage your own heart.
When you face your emotions firmly like that,
little by little, your heart will begin to feel fulfilled.
Once you start feeling fulfilled and have more room in your heart,
you will naturally be able to treat those around you with kindness.
Even so, if something unpleasant or painful happens, anyone would feel down, right?
When things like that continue, you might take it out on someone else, right?
You might find yourself unable to trust people, right?
Even though you know it's bothersome behavior, you might end up doing it anyway, right?
That is,
your heart is screaming.
"Why don't you understand?"
"Why won't you look at me?"
"Someone help me."
Those feelings.
If no one understands them, it's truly painful and hard, isn't it?
Because no one understands, you end up lashing out at those around you, don't you?
If you become self-destructive or keep blaming yourself in that state, your heart will fall apart.
That's why.
I want you to cherish yourself.
Even if no one else understands, at the very least, I want you to be the one to stand by your own feelings.
I want you to be your own best supporter.
When you do that,
people around you will start to show understanding, and some will even start to stand by your heart.
Especially when you are carrying unpleasant feelings, don't deepen your heart's wounds.
Embrace your feelings. Okay?
That is what
will lead to your happiness. Without a doubt.
This time, we talked about embracing your emotions.
Thank you for staying with me until the end.
We have received "Happy News!"
We are grateful for everyone's warm support.
Thank you all so much, truly!
