Scene 32-3: "Natural Smiles" Over "Putting on a Good Show"
The first sports day.
The teachers of the 1-year-old class were a bit hesitant.
"Should we practice to make sure they put on a good show?"
"But these kids have better expressions when they're just being themselves than when they're doing 'movements for practice'."
So, they decided on one theme.
"Let's just show them as they are, like always."
They told the parents this:
・We will not have any special performances.
・It is an extension of their usual play.
・At the end, they will run to their moms and dads for a big hug.
Furthermore, they played music during pickup time,
creating a time for parents and children to enjoy dancing together a little bit.
——And then, the day arrived.
Some children cried a little.
But most of the children ran to their moms and dads just as they always are.
Seeing that, the teacher thought,
"This was the right thing to do."
Reflecting on the content after this sports day,
let's consider whether it was "child-centered childcare."

Key Points of Childcare
Events are not "places to show off skills," but
places to share "the child as they are now."
For 1-year-olds, what is important is not success or perfection, but
✔ A secure environment
✔ Their usual relationships
✔ The desire to try things out
By conveying this to parents as well,
it changes from an "event to be evaluated" to an "event to feel growth together."
