Best Movies. 091 "The Hidden" 1987.

The reason the neighbor suddenly turned violent was an alien takeover. It's a setting you've seen somewhere in sci-fi manga, combined with a subtle cheapness and a cast solidified by nothing but cool supporting actors. If you don't call this a B-movie masterpiece, what would you call it? The extreme car chases and the setting of an alien that just keeps killing people are fun. Moreover, this villain switches hosts. You think it's an ordinary old man at first, but then it jumps to a woman in a tight suit. It's a bit of a wild ride, but you can't take your eyes off it until the end. The investigator chasing it is also a person taken over by a good alien, and just as I was thinking, 'Isn't this a setting from Ultra Seven?', I realized I was already in the middle of the film. Kyle MacLachlan, who shows no emotion throughout the entire film, is great. It's a miraculous performance that sits between 'Dune' and 'Twin Peaks'. Director Jack Sholder has a really mediocre filmography, including 'A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2' and 'Renegades', where a young Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips just run wild, and I've never felt the urge to watch anything else of his. Sorry. But this movie is different. I think it's probably because Jim Kouf, who wrote the 'Stakeout' series and 'Rush Hour', wrote the script. I guess it's a unique buddy movie. I recommend it to those who don't like the looseness of 'Men in Black'.
It's hard to find even in the sci-fi section, but I wonder if it will be released on Blu-ray.
