The Luxury of Watching Time Pass Under the Sun: Relaxing Chairs Part 3 - Letters from São Paulo

Hello, this is Noriko Ivory.

Today, I would like to talk about my favorite way to spend time, the true pleasure of relaxing in a chair in the city and savoring the "now."

The theme of my life is "relaxation."

Living in South America,

I feel a culture of leisure,
where people take chairs outside
to watch time go by.

In my own past experiences abroad,
I have encountered people who enjoy spending time this way
in Southern China, India, and Kenya.

Taking a chair outside the door.

Sitting by the window.

If not for the whole day,
the true pleasure of experiencing a fleeting moment of "taking it easy."

When you are young, you surely think,

"Someday I will be able to relax
and spend my time like that."


But you know, precisely because you are young,
experiencing the "here and now" like this,

bringing the energy that has risen to your head back down to your body,
this "time spent watching time pass"

I realize now more than ever that this becomes a recharging time where you can fully utilize your five senses.

Don't think you have to wait until you reach a certain age;
I want you to try having such time for three minutes a day, in a way you can do right now.

Leisure time is an asset for creativity,
a thought I want to pass on to the younger generation.
