【Satisfying a light hunger while walking around the city】- São Paulo Newsletter
Hello, this is Noriko Ivory.
Today, why don't I introduce you to the city where I live while snacking on some classic light treats for walking around town?
Even a simple walk can lead to something pleasant, as the saying goes, 'a dog that walks will find a stick'—it's just a part of my daily city strolls.
When I get a little hungry,
I reach for a classic snack.
Even though I say 'classic',
there are so many varieties that I couldn't possibly introduce them all,
but today, I'll share a few things I've enjoyed recently.
Brazilian Tapioca eaten with a knife and fork

Here, when we say tapioca,
it's a cousin to the crepe
that you eat with a knife and fork.
Special flour that has been finely ground and moistened
is pressed onto a hot iron plate to cook,
then your favorite fillings are added and it's folded in half.
The photo shows
one with white cheese from Minas Gerais state.
A plate of light chicken
or sweet tapioca are also classics.
Small crispy croquettes, Bolinha

The name of this voluminous dish is
Bolinha.
It means something like 'little ball',
and it's a thin-skinned mini croquette
made by wrapping your favorite filling
in cassava dough.
A bowl piled high with Açai

Açai, which is also popular in Japan,
is served in a large bowl. It's so generous that even two people can't finish it.

The classic Café & Pão de Queijo

When it comes to the standard
A small espresso and
pão de queijo (chewy cheese bread).
A moment to sit down when tired from walking
and enjoy the aroma.
Chocolate - A moment for chocolate

Chocolate is
easy on the common person's wallet
and it's not just the usual sweet stuff,
this is a masterpiece enjoyed at the cafeteria of Dengo,
one of the highest-end brands
in Brazil.
Even for a single bite that fits in the palm of your hand,
the price exceeds two lunches,
it's quite a gorgeous chocolate...
(Brazilian
fair-trade cacao beans
are quite pricey by world standards, after all)
The types of chocolate
range from the best to the worst... there are many.

Well, with all that said
walking the city while introducing ways to satisfy small cravings
is a fun world.
Maybe next time I'll make it a table of traditional food
to share with friends,
please look forward to it.
