A Journey into Flora, Fauna, Geology, and History ⑤ - The Mountainous Region of Rio State (Final) ◇ Botanical Records
Hello, this is Noriko Ivory.
⋆
Today, I will share the
plants and nature of the mountain trails
I encountered in Santa Maria Madalena
, a mountain town located north of Rio de Janeiro city.

I advanced step by step
along the rugged mountain path.
The primary purpose of this trip
is the study of vegetation.
It is the Natural History Research Group established by Dr. Goro Hashimoto, who contributed to Brazilian botany,
together with the herbalist Dr. Kensaku Namekata.
The doctors were born in Japan,
immigrated with academic aspirations,
and now rest in the soil of Brazil.
⋆
The journey of natural history research
is about inheriting the doctors' vision
while engaging with flora, fauna, geology, and nature.
It has been held every year
except during the pandemic.

This time, we visited the
State Santos Lima Botanical Research Station and
enjoyed trekking through the mountains and valleys
that extend from there.

Overwhelming vitality.
The vegetation is truly rich,
and for someone like me living in the city,
it is a world of wonder filled with energy.

As we ventured deep into the forest,
we even encountered wild monkeys.

Everywhere I looked,
there were so many plants I was seeing for the first time!

The fungi are also abundant.
I encountered many rare mushrooms.

While walking along the path,
who taught us about the plants,Dr. Olga also
shared a wealth of knowledge with us
about her specialty, moss research,
during our previous natural history study trip.

I have shared stories about the history, people, and nature
that thrive on the land of Brazil.

from the other side of the globe.
