Relaxing Table ② Brunch at a Hideaway - Letters from São Paulo
Hello, this is Noriko Ivory.
Today, from a table at my favorite local
garden cafe,
I will talk about my city and
my way of interacting with my neighbors.

This is a local hideaway that I introduced
a little while ago.
Pousada Zilah is the name of this mansion.
I secretly call it the "Little Bird Inn."
It is a guesthouse converted from an old-era residence
where you can fully enjoy
Brazilian modern architecture.
I have only been visiting this old house inn
for a few years.
The owner, Lucia,
inherited this mansion from her predecessor and runs it.
The "reason" I became close with her
started with the thought,If only I could have tea in the garden of such a lovely old house
while listening to the birds singing."
I pulled and rang the old bell with a string
that was by the gate.

Since then, on days when I have free time and the weather is nice,
I make it a point to visit and spend time having tea here.

The photo above is from
a "garden brunch one day"
that I spent leisurely with friends here.

whenever I want to spend
a special time with a dear friend,
I first make sure to
ask about Lucia's availability.

It's not that everyone in the neighborhood
orders tea like this here.
This is a "secret space and time" that only I negotiated to get,
a blissful time for myself.
I order half of the small "brunch" or "light meal"
just as I like it,
and leave the other half to Lucia,
enjoying it that way.
My gluten allergy is
quite severe,
so I make sure that is the top priority.

On this day, I was able to sample
a new tapioca recipethat I showed you in the previous
Series ① Tea Time at My Home.
I dissolve the tapioca in egg,
add fragrant herbs,
cook it without oil,
and enjoy it with fruit jelly sauce or cheese.
≪Tapioca flour isn't very common in Japan, is it?
If you can't find it,
you could likely substitute it with a chewy flour like joshin-ko (rice flour)≫

Today, I've shared a little glimpse
of the light meal scene in Brazil
from a relaxing neighborhood space.

" Relaxing" is also
a theme for my own way of living."
What I'll share next
could be delicious Brazilian food.
Or perhaps,
instead of a table,
I'm thinking that a series on "favorite chairs" might be nice.
In these Letters from São Paulo,
I convey my wish for everyone in Japan
to enjoy living their own lives,
while introducing you to daily life
on the other side of the globe.
Thank you for reading today as well.
If you felt that this world was a little nice,
I would be happy if you could press the Like button and spread the circle.
Thank you for your support.
