Announcing the Noncha Awards. Haiku Category 1

Good evening! It's Noncha ^_^
Thank you all so much for your participation and support for the Lilac Cup, which I have been announcing for some time now. ✨
According to the official Min-Hai page, there were 153 participants and a total of 399 haiku submitted.

The haiku that advanced to the preliminary round were announced today. Out of all the entries, 61 haiku made it to the preliminary round.
From those, 8 haiku will be selected by vote to move on to the final round.

Every single piece submitted was wonderful. I imagine it must have been very difficult for the judges to choose.

Did you find any haiku that you liked?
They were all so wonderful that it feels like a waste to only have 61!

So, while in truth every single haiku was so wonderful that I wanted to give everyone an award,
I have selected the ones that left a particularly strong impression on me. This is a
personal award that has absolutely no relation to or influence on the official judging. ✨

I went through the list of anonymous entries, picked the ones I liked, and since there were so many, I categorized them by theme. I can't introduce them all at once, so I will announce them over several articles. (Selections have already been made)

【Haiku Category】
Theme: Haiku I liked for their 【heart, freshness, coolness, impact, word choice and resonance, sentiment, and beautiful spring scenery】.

(I wrote this article based on last spring's Space Cup Personal Awards article.)

Now, let's announce them! ✨

Noncha's Personal Awards: Haiku Category
【I Love That Heart】 Award

Congratulations to all the winners! 🎉

1. Sekizo-san

Defy gravity, fledgling bird, fly!

Do your best! You can do it! You can do it! Do you remember the time you kept falling, getting back up, practicing, and finally learned to ride a bike on your own? There is an adult's kindness in this, as if watching over someone powerfully and saying, "Fly." Thank you for such a wonderful haiku. ✨

2. Genkai Roninsei Piyo-san

Spring has come, know your place, you fool.

I take my hat off to the sensibility that can compose this haiku at 18 years old. It reminded me of a poem by Noriko Ibaragi that I read in a newspaper column a long time ago. A poem of self-admonition that comes to mind when the heart feels parched. A fresh sensibility overflowing with youth. Thank you for such a wonderful haiku. ✨

"Own Sensitivity" 1975 (Excerpt)
"Do not blame others for your heart that is drying up and becoming brittle. Having neglected to water it yourself, do not blame the times for everything that goes wrong. It is an abandonment of the dignity that shines ever so slightly. Protect your own sensitivity yourself, you fool."

Noriko Ibaragi / Excerpt from 'Own Sensitivity'

3. Niku to Kirimi no Chiisana Teikoku-san

Spring darkness, my mental state is silken tofu.

It is amazing that at 11 years old, you can define yourself so clearly.
"Know thyself"
is a quote by the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates.
He who calmly says his mentality is like silk tofu
must surely also possess a delicate smoothness.
Thank you for the wonderful haiku✨

4. k_maru027

Rising skylark, not wanting to lose to its rival

As someone who hates to lose, this is a haiku I thought "I love it" at first glance.
I thought it fit the seasonal word "rising skylark" very well.
A skylark soaring high into the sky, singing energetically as it goes up and up.
As expected of k_maru-san.
Thank you for the wonderful haiku✨

5. Daina-san

Early spring, parental love that backfires again and again
Spring chill, I left my regrets in yesterday
Don't look down, there is spring outside the screen

These three haiku by Daina-san are all ones I can empathize with, as they apply directly to me right now.
Raising children is raising parents.
While raising my children, I am also still very much in the middle of growing myself.
The words I say to my children also resonate with me.
Thank you for these three wonderful haiku✨

6. Naoki-san

Lilac chill, I wonder if it's okay to stay like this

These are the words Tomozo-san, the grandfather from Chibi Maruko-chan,
mutters when he composes a haiku.
("Tomozo)Heart's Haiku")
It resonates directly, just like that.
Starting with the cutting word "Lilac chill" and then
"I wonder if it's okay to stay like this"
It feels like a free-form haiku, yet it is a mystery that it fits perfectly into 17 syllables.
It makes me want to say it out loud to confirm it.
It sounds like colloquial speech, and yet it expresses a feeling that everyone has during this season of lilac chill in a single line; I thought it was amazing.
Thank you for the wonderful haiku✨

7. Ayako Yamaguchi

If you fall, just leave it to me, says the spring soil

As soon as I read this haiku, I felt a softness and a warm, cozy spring that melted my heart, which had been cold and frozen.
It's okay if you fall.
I will catch you.
I felt a heartwarming kindness in the generous earth of spring.
Thank you for the wonderful haiku✨

That concludes the seven haiku under the themeI love that heart.
Thank you for the wonderful haiku✨
