Impressions
This work is a story set in Tokyo shortly after the war that deals with heavy themes such as guilt, memory, and responsibility.
The human drama that unfolds in a confined space is tense, and I feel it is a work that leaves a lingering impression after reading.
It is very impressive how the story depicts the impact of the massive event of war on individual lives through the conversations between the two characters in contrasting positions: the prisoner and the narrator.
The story, which progresses while intersecting historical facts and fiction, has a profound depth while maintaining the hard-boiled atmosphere characteristic of the author.
On the other hand, because the themes are profound, it is not the type of novel to be read casually, but rather one suited for reading while savoring it slowly.
After finishing it, a quiet lingering feeling remained, making me think again about history and memory. It is a work I especially recommend to readers seeking deep thematic content.
