Rewarding Diligence and Unrewarding Diligence
Regarding what I shared yesterday about
living with 60% of your effort, I would like to
try my own verification
this month.
Oh! There is something I want to tell you first!
This "60%" is, of course,
not something that can be measured numerically.
So, it will be 60% by my own feeling
.
On such a day, Koichi Honda's YouTube video
caught my eye.
Because the title was
"Don't be too serious."
Isn't this exactly what I am
about to try doing?! (lol)
So,
the theme for living with 60% effort today will be
How can I reduce my effort to live seriously to 60%?
.
According to Koichi-san,
there are two types of seriousness.
1. Rewarding seriousness.
2. Unrewarding seriousness.
Just seeing this made me laugh.
Because when I talk with my childhood friend,
the words that always come up are
"We have been putting in
unrewarding effort, haven't we?" (lol).
Is that why? I have always wanted to
become the rewarding type of serious!
Oh! For those like me?!
There is a fable about
unrewarding seriousness.
A woodcutter is
working hard to cut down a tree.
A traveler passing by
was watching the scene,
but despite the vigor with which he swung his axe,
the tree was not being cut down easily.
Seeing that the axe the woodcutter was using
seemed to be chipped,
the traveler said,
"Wouldn't it be better to sharpen your axe?"
Then, the woodcutter said,
"I know that, but
I'm too busy cutting the tree
to do that."
When I read it like this, I want to tell that woodcutter,
"You'd finish faster if you sharpened your axe first," but...
I have also become that woodcutter (lol).
Even though I wake up early in the morning,
there is so much to do,
and by the time I go to bed,
I often wonder,
what did I do all day today?
Why do I think that?
Actually, there are times when I don't think that.
What is the difference?
In my opinion...
I think the deciding factor is whether or not
the day was fulfilling.
As for that "fulfillment,"
just feeling that I was able to do one single thing
gives me a considerable sense of satisfaction.
(Is that too low? lol)
So, tomorrow,
I will decide on 3 priorities for tomorrow,
and if I can do 2 of them, I'll consider it a success!
I'll do the one remaining if I have
some breathing room called margin.
Not clearing everything is what I mean by
60% effort.
