The game of getting off at a station you've never been to

I like places where I don't even know how to read the name.

A way to spend half a day when you have no plans but want to go out.
Go to your nearest station dressed as lightly as possible and wearing comfortable shoes, then pick a station at random from the route map.

Or, go through the ticket gate with your IC card and just hop on the next train that arrives.
Then, just get off at a random station.

I did this recently and ended up in a town that still has buildings that were once used as pleasure quarters.
It seemed to be a town far from the city center, so even on the weekend, there were few people around.
I was happy to be able to walk around the town at a leisurely pace.

There was a coffee stand converted from a gas station,
and a bookstore and a general store inside a long, narrow row house.

There were a few shops scattered along the main street,
and as a first-time visitor,
I hesitated to enter when I made eye contact with the old man inside,
but I managed to eat a grilled rice cake at a Japanese confectionery shop that seemed to have been loved by the locals for many years.

Even if it's far from places that are 'must-visit' with long lines,
or 'sold out' signs,
or being photogenic,
a treat I found for myself by walking wherever my feet took me tastes delicious.

I returned from the same station before the sun went down.

And because I got off so randomly,
I've already forgotten what the station was called.
That kind of casualness is just right.
