For an engineer, a PC is a 'work tool,' a 'play tool,' and a 'tool for expression.' I think ASUS really stepped up their game by packing all of that into a 14-inch device.

Surprisingly, there are many engineers who ride motorcycles. They refresh themselves by riding mountain passes on the weekends and then face their code again starting Monday. There are quite a few people around me who live in that kind of cycle.

4. Choose by 'Use Case' Rather Than Specs—DELL XPS 8940 (RTX 4060)

If the G5 mentioned earlier is the 'first machine,' this one is the 'smart choice for those with a clear purpose'.

The RTX 4060 is a current-generation GPU. For those who want to get serious about AI processing or video editing, this grade sits right in the sweet spot of practicality. If you built this same configuration new, it would exceed 250,000 yen. Yet, as a refurbished unit, it's 195,000 yen.

Having worked with hardware for 10 years, what I think is, 'choose based on what you're going to use it for, rather than the spec numbers.' As a sub-machine for streaming or an entry-level machine for creative work, the balance of this configuration is quite excellent.

When I found out about this, I was actually a bit frustrated. If I had had options like this when I first bought a PC, I could have tried so many more things much sooner.

It comes with Office, is pre-configured, and is ready to use as soon as it arrives. Being able to avoid the classic engineer experience of 'wasting half a day on initial PC setup' is also a subtly appreciated point.
