Welcome to the Chabu-dai Life.

Yesterday, I made up my mind and bought a chabu-dai (low dining table).

The trigger was seeing our baby start attending nursery school, where everything is at a child's height, and watching the children move freely through that space, which made me think, 'I want our home to be like this too.'

My wife was the one who pressed the purchase button. She is the very person who kept saying, 'The tabletop is...' every time we talked about a chabu-dai. While I thought any plywood tabletop would be fine, my wife insisted on being particular about the material. I think life tends to flow in the direction of the person with the strongest will.

We also arranged a chair for the baby. My mother back home was the one who pressed the purchase button for this. I begged her, 'Could you give this as a slightly early birthday present for the baby?' Even though I had never begged for anything before, I was able to act immediately for the sake of the baby.

And so, the preparations for the baby's chabu-dai life were completed in just one day yesterday. Since it was a fairly expensive purchase, I had been waiting for the right timing for the past two months, but once we decided, it happened in a flash. I am surprised at how quickly things are moving.

Since the chabu-dai is made to order, it seems it will arrive in the middle of next month. Along with that, we will likely have to part ways with the Stokke high chair we have been using since we started baby food. I had intended to use it for a long time, so I never imagined we would let it go so soon. I still have an attachment to it, but I hope it finds its way to someone else who will love it.

What shall we do when the chabu-dai arrives? Should we buy floor cushions? A carpet? Maybe the baby can even help us with cooking. Imagining such a future is fun.

When the chabu-dai arrives, our life will surely change. The preparations for that are proceeding steadily (at breakneck speed). Welcome to the chabu-dai life. I'm looking forward to meeting you when the rainy season ends.
