[ A Gift for Examinees ]: Weekly Short-Short Note (Mochi Pro)

I love mochi, and I love mandarin oranges too. I'm glad to be Japanese 😊♪

[ A Gift for Examinees ]

"So this is it..."

Examinee Mochi.
Lured by the sound of something auspicious, I opened the door to a long-established mochi shop.
I was thinking of giving a gift to a senior student who is taking exams.

The Examinee Mochi was lined up in a prominent place in the shop.
Apparently, they are carefully kneaded from mochi rice that has been offered at a nearby shrine.

"If it's a gift, why don't you taste it yourself first, young lady?"

The clerk, dressed in pure white clothes, looked exactly like what you would call a "|Professional| craftsman".
As I sat down as told, a mochi on a cute small plate was brought to me along with green tea.
A pure white mochi.
Usually, there would at least be a brand mark saying "Examinee Mochi," but there wasn't even that.
I put my hands together and said "Itadakimasu" before picking it up.

A pleasant elasticity that bounces back against my fingers.
When I bite into it, it holds firm before snapping cleanly.
Yet, when I pull it away from my mouth, it has a flexibility that stretches endlessly.
The more I chew, the deeper and wider the sweetness of the mochi becomes.
And then, it slides down my throat, and as it settles in my stomach, I am wrapped in a comfortable warmth...

What is this feeling of happiness?
I quietly open my eyes, which I had closed without realizing it.
Then, I made eye contact with the craftsman in the white coat.

"Young lady, what's important is the 'tenacity' to see things through to the end.
Both for exams and for mochi."

Saying that, he gave me a thumbs up.

───Ah,

Does mochi contain something important for examinees?
Even though it looks like a cute mochi, Examinee Mochi is deep!
I gave the craftsman a thumbs up back with a smile and said, "Yes."

I received a lot of energy from just one piece.
I hope this energy reaches my senior, too.
