Talent and effort, loneliness and hope. The melody resonates...
Honeybees and Distant Thunder (Vol. 1)
From the moment I opened the page, it was as if I had been drawn into a concert hall. To me, who had always thought music was something to be "listened to" rather than "read," this novel allowed me to experience "music you can read."

✻Synopsis✻
The god of music is sometimes cruel, and sometimes gives gifts that are like miracles--.
The Yoshigae International Piano Competition. I found myself standing on the stage where the winner goes on to fly out into the world.
Jin Kazama, a boy who appeared like the wind, without an instrument.
Aya Eiden, myself, who had been losing her sound ever since losing her mother.
Akashi Takashima, a working adult supporting a family, yet unable to give up on his dream.
And Masaru, the perfect honor student whom everyone acknowledges.
Carrying our respective pasts and conflicts, we were gathered on the same stage.
Talent clashes with talent, and effort intertwines with fate.
To think that the act of playing could be so cruel, and yet so beautiful.
The competition is not a contest, but a battle with myself.
In the wings, in front of the keyboard, I tremble every time my heartbeat echoes.
This story is the beginning of a journey where we, thrown into a storm of music, search for our own melodies.
📖Impressions
I was shaken by the appearance of 16-year-old Jin Kazama. A presence who, despite owning no instrument, lets music itself overflow from his body. The mystery of how, even though I can only follow his sound through text, melodies somehow flow into my brain.
On the other hand, my heart tightened during the scenes where I empathized with Aya's past. Seeing her, who lost her sound along with her mother's death, face the piano again, I superimposed my own frustrations and fears onto her.
Akashi's "reality as an adult" and Masaru's "loneliness due to being perfect" also resonate realistically from their respective positions. Not one of them is merely a "genius"; the struggles and passions of people living with music are depicted. That is precisely why I, as a reader, was so moved.
Talent and effort, loneliness and hope. With every page I turned, I felt like I was suffocating along with them as they desperately faced the keyboard in the storm that is music. Just finishing the first volume has left me completely overwhelmed.
I can't wait to find out what kind of melodies will resonate in the continuation.
