I read the third book in the series, "Yokian Yawa:
The Mermaid Eater."
It was as interesting as I expected.
The theme this time is "mermaids."
The difference between mermaids as legendary creatures and mermaids as supernatural beings is skillfully depicted, and I was drawn into the depth of that setting.

The kidnapping case at the heart of the story is not just a simple crime; it is intricately intertwined with human desires and sorrows, and as I read on, my heart felt constricted.
Especially, I couldn't help but feel the poignancy in the relationship between Mizuki, who is working hard on marriage hunting, and Kana.
The combination of Iori Senzoku's cold-headed reasoning and Detective Wakizaka's enthusiastic investigation is as exquisite as ever.
This time, there is a scene where Iori infiltrates a marriage hunting party, and I couldn't help but laugh at how popular he was.
These comical elements provided a nice, moderate break from the story, which tends to get heavy.
What was particularly impressive was Iori's bombshell statement at the end.
The shocking development, which seemed to resolve all the foreshadowing up to this point at once, made me gasp.
This development has greatly increased my anticipation for the next volume.
Yuuri Eneda's delicate writing style and Asumiko Nakamura's beautiful illustrations combine to create a unique worldview.
While it is a yokai fantasy, I felt it was a work with depth as a human drama as well.
With each book in the series, the charm of the characters increases, and you can also enjoy watching their growth and changes.
Detective Wakizaka's growth, in particular, is remarkable.
The "Yokian Yawa" series is not just a mystery or a yokai story, but a work that carefully depicts the subtleties of the human heart.
I am really looking forward to the next volume.
