The protagonist, Iori Senzoku, is a character
who possesses both beauty, a sharp tongue,
and calm insight, and you cannot take your eyes
off his every move.
What was particularly impressive was the banter
between Iori and the rookie detective, Wakisaka.
While Wakisaka's naivety and purity bring a
lightness to the story, his growth and sincerity
are truly touching.
Also, the personalities of the Yokai-jin, such as
the Azuki-arai and the Zashiki-warashi, are
lovable, and each episode moved my heart.
Throughout the story, human malice and prejudice
are depicted, and in the end, it makes you think,
"Aren't humans the truly scary ones, not the
Yokai-jin?"
While there are sad endings, the bonds and
kindness of the characters provide salvation,
and the post-reading feeling is complex yet
full of satisfaction.
Yuuri Enada's storytelling is masterful, and I
finished reading it all at once.
I think this work is a masterpiece that can be
enjoyed as both a mystery and a fantasy.
