Grim Reaper's Work Diary 1
I read "Accuracy of Death".
A great thing about Kotaro Isaka's books is that
even when grim reapers or hitmen appear,
they aren't scary.
And,
there's a fun quality that somehow makes you happy.
Accuracy of Death
Kotaro Isaka (Author)
If a person like this appears near you,
he/she
might be a grim reaper—
(1) Hangs out at CD shops
(2) Has a surname that is the same as a town or city name
(3) Their conversational responses are
slightly off
(4) Does not try to
touch others with bare hands.
After a one-week investigation,
the grim reaper makes a judgment of
"Pass" or "Fail"
on the subject's death, and if "Pass",
death is executed on the 8th day.
However, deaths by illness or suicide are excluded.
Rarely, there are humans who can sense a grim reaper.
—Six lives encountered by the cool and somewhat strange grim reaper,
Chiba.
This is the original work adapted into a movie
starring Takeshi Kaneshiro!

___________________
It has the feel of a short story collection
about a life drama starring a rock-and-roll grim reaper.
This grim reaper has a lovable,
eccentric quality,
and it's funny how his conversations with humans
are always slightly off.
Grim Reaper's Work Diary
The protagonist, who appears as a "Rain Reaper"
rather than a rain man,
bears the heavy responsibility of deciding
people's life and death, yet
is somewhat scatterbrained.
It even gives off a comical atmosphere,
like a new employee misunderstanding
their boss's instructions.
Six lives, six flavors
The story is composed of six short stories,
each giving off the scent of a different genre.
There's a romance novel style,
a road movie style,
and a mystery novel style,
making you feel like you're participating
in a literary food tour.
The wonder of connections
Stories that seem unrelated at first
connect in the end like puzzle pieces
clicking into place,
which is the true essence of the Isaka world.
The moment you slap your knee and think, "Oh, so that's it!"
is a pleasure like solving a trick
in a mystery novel.
This book, while dealing with the heavy theme
of a grim reaper,
has a mysterious charm that never
becomes oppressive.
After finishing it,
it's a book that makes you feel a strange power,
making you want to live your life positively.
