Boosting Your Mood with Expressions and Words: Living Happily
I am sharing this in the hope that it will make your daily life even a little more enjoyable.
I want to live happily every day, but there are times when I feel reluctant or depressed.
When I have to speak in front of people.
When I have to work with someone I don't get along with.
On a more personal level, like going to school or work after a long weekend.
This is a story about trying to give yourself a little suggestion.
It has been proven in psychology and brain science.
Expressions
"A fake smile is fine."
When I first became a nurse (though that was decades ago now).
A veteran nurse told me this.
She told me that after changing into my uniform, I should look at my face in the mirror, smile, and then leave the locker room.
Even now, when I'm not feeling up to it, I consciously try to lift the corners of my mouth.
During work, I always wear a mask for infection control.
Even if it can't be seen through the mask, I make sure my mouth isn't turned down.
What people see is my eyes, and when the mouth is turned down, the eyes aren't smiling either.
Lifting the corners of your mouth from under the mask helps lift your mood.
Since I've been doing this for many years, it seems like lifting the corners of my mouth has become a switch that lifts my mood.
Had a fight at home, feeling sluggish from lack of sleep, worried about the kids.
A nurse's bad mood has nothing to do with the patients, right?
If they are going to receive the same care, patients feel better with someone who is smiling than someone who is sullen.
This shouldn't just apply to nurses.
It's unpleasant when the person at the desk next to you is in a bad mood from the morning, isn't it?
If you live every day, there are days when you feel reluctant or nervous.
Words
"Fun"Say it out loud.
Even if the situation isn't fun, say it is fun.
It seems that the words you speak lead to changing your brain, consciousness, and actions.
This is called the placebo effect; it is the effect of words where, even if a medicine has no active ingredients, if you are told "it is effective" and use it, you can still get results despite the lack of components.
When I head into a tense situation or a job that feels a bit daunting,
I say out loud, "I'm going to enjoy this," as I head in.
Even if you don't say it out loud, it might be good to chant it to yourself.
I often hear athletes say things like, "I want to enjoy this situation," during tense matches, such as close games or championship battles.
By changing the word to "fun," you can transform things that might otherwise become negative into something positive, even in situations that wouldn't normally be considered "fun."
I hope you can have a pleasant start after the long weekend.
