#0002 Self-Introduction Kunio Tsubotani

Hello. I am Kunio Tsubotani.
I would like to introduce myself.

Where am I from?

I am from Fukuoka. Because I was good at logical thinking and structuring, and was influenced by Hiroshi Mori's book "The Perfect Insider," I decided to become a programmer and joined a 100-person IT company (SIer). However, various problems that could not be solved by programming were occurring on the front lines. When I complained to the founder and president that "this company is somehow strange," he replied, "then you should try to make it better," and I was transferred to the HR department, and have been doing "HR" for about 25 years since then.

At first, as an HR representative and then as an HR manager, I gained 8 years of practical HR experience. I had the desire to "make the workplace better," but honestly, I think I was an "HR person who didn't understand anything" (I wrote about my experience at that time in the column "In the end, what does HR do for us?").

Feeling the limits of my own small capacity, I made a resolution to "go on a warrior's training" and became an HR consultant at Recruit Management Solutions. For 8 years, I built HR systems for over 50 companies and supported organizational development. Trained by my mentors in talent management and organizational development, as well as by the executives of my clients, I was able to develop my own "HR philosophy".

As a result, I thought, "I want to share this knowledge with the world," and began writing books and giving lectures. In 2020, I established Kochuten Co., Ltd., with the philosophy of "giving shape to the will of HR," and that brings me to where I am today.

What am I doing now?

As of June 2024, I am doing 7 things (see the figure below).

1. HR Sen-Tsubo (Web Articles)

I am sharing the "tsubo" (key points) of HR in various places. Blogs, Twitter (X), Facebook, interviews for various media, dialogue articles, seminar reports... I am creating this HR Sen-Tsubo with the hope that people who want to learn about HR can reach these "tsubo" when they want to know them and use them as material (I wrote about the purpose of HR Sen-Tsubo in "#0001_HR Sen-Tsubo starts").

2. Books

Introductory books for HR beginners such as "Illustrated Introduction to Talent Management," "Illustrated Introduction to Organizational Development," and "Illustrated Introduction to Goal Management," I am writing the "100 Tsubo" series of books (I wrote about the background of the writing in "How was the systematic and easy-to-understand "100 Tsubo" written?"). The fourth book in the series, "Illustrated Introduction to Labor Affairs," has already been submitted and is scheduled to be published on August 23, 2024, and I am currently writing the fifth book, "Illustrated Introduction to Recruitment."

3. HR Proficiency Test

I operate the "HR Ability Test," a web-based test for raising your HR knowledge to the next level (I wrote about the background of its development in "The Story Behind Developing the 'HR Ability Test' to Acquire Fundamental HR Knowledge and the Thoughts Put Into It"). The "100 Tsubo" book series is the official textbook.

❹ Lectures and Seminars

I conduct lectures and seminars, focusing on the content of the "100 Tsubo" book series. I aim to create a space where practical learning can be gained through interactive exchanges with participants. My personal best is the joint seminar with SmartHR, "Goal Management Where Individuals and Organizations Both Win".

❺ Goal Management Paradigm Shift Project

I started a project to change the paradigm of "goal management" on June 1, 2024 (we are active in the Facebook group "Goal Management Paradigm Shift Project". If you are interested, please join us. Affiliation, job type, and position do not matter). I believe the key to the shift is "experience".

❻ Kochu HR School

I operate the "Kochu HR School," where you can aim to become an HR professional based on systematic knowledge and polish your own theories with peers. The 9th term will start in January 2025.

❼ Consultant and Advisor

I serve as an HR consultant and advisor for several companies. I think and practice together as an HR professional on ways for that organization to function at its maximum. My involvement varies by company, including 1-on-1s with executives and managers, revising HR systems, conducting training, workshops, and dialogue sessions, sitting in on goal-setting interviews, and facilitating evaluation alignment meetings. The practical insights I have discovered here lead to my books.

Where am I going?

Being an active professional at 90 years old is my life goal.

I have spent a total of 25 years in "HR" as an HR representative, HR manager, HR consultant, HR advisor, author of HR books, and HR school operator, and I don't think my being in HR will change in the future. I believe that HR means "

utilizing people to accomplish things." To do that, it starts with utilizing yourself. I hope this HR Sen-Tsubo will be a help in utilizing "you".

That is all I wanted to convey.
