[NOTE Series | Parent's Future Strategy Newsletter] Vol. 13: Being used by AI or using it? The changes in learning that parents need to know now
Hello.
This is the NEXT2035 editorial department.
Among recent news,
there is a development that we at NEXT2035 would also like to highlight.
That is,
the establishment of a new National Intelligence Council
news.
At first glance,
it might feel like a somewhat distant topic related to politics or national security.
However, these societal changes
will gradually connect to our children's future learning and work.
This is because in the society of the future,
it will not be enough to just possess knowledge;
the ability to gather, interpret, judge, and translate information into actionwill be
increasingly in demand.
The actual news article is here.
The value of people who can handle "information" is rising
Looking at this development
from the perspective of education and work,
there is a major message.
That is,
Japan is beginning to treat "information" as something more important
.
Gathering information.
Analyzing it.
Connecting it to judgment.
Moving to necessary action.
This is not a skill needed only by the nation.

It is a skill that will become necessary
for children in the future,
and for us parents as well.
Rather than just knowing information,
✅ Is that information really correct?
✅ What is the background behind it?
✅ What do I think about it?
Won't value increasingly gather around people
who can hold such perspectives?
Jobs that will become important in the future
Thinking about this news,
there are jobs that will become even more important from now on.
For example,
🌟 Cybersecurity
🌟 Information analysis
🌟 AI/IT fields
🌟 Jobs related to international affairs and diplomacy
🌟 Jobs involving risk analysis and policy recommendations
What these jobs have in common is that
they cannot be sustained simply by having knowledge.
✅ Ability to interpret information
✅ Ability to think from multiple perspectives
✅ Ability to communicate with others
✅ Ability to make decisions in response to change
These are the kinds of skills that are required.
In other words, for future jobs,
it is not just about doing exactly what you are told,
people who can think, judge, and take actionare entering an era where they will be needed.
There are also jobs whose value is likely to decline
On the other hand,
jobs whose value is likely to declinealso exist.
Jobs that only wait for instructions.
Jobs that only involve simple tasks.
Jobs that only provide predetermined answers.
Jobs that are completed only in Japanese and are difficult to access external information.
These areas
have the potential to be replaced by AI and systemsas well.
Of course,
this does not mean that all jobs will disappear.
However, from now on,
just by "doing exactly what you are told,"
there may be more situations where it becomes difficult
to keep up with changes in society.
That is why, when thinking about children's learning,
it is not just about memorizing existing correct answers,
but the ability to think, use, and apply them yourself becomes important.
Five skills that children will need
So, what kind of skills will children need in the future?
At NEXT2035,
we believe that five major skills will become important.
1. English | The ability to go out and get information
English is
not just for tests.
It is a tool for going out and getting information from the world.
There is a difference in both quantity and speed
between the information you can get only in Japanese
and the information you can get in English.
In the coming era,
being able to speak English will not be the goal,
but the starting line for connecting with the world.
2. Thinking Skills | Ability to Interpret Information
In an era with so much information,
what is important is not just 'knowing things'.
Is this true?
Why is it like this?
From whose perspective is it being told?
What do I think about it?
It is necessary not just to receive information,
but to have the ability to interpret it and form your own thoughts.
3. IT/AI Literacy | Moving from Being Used to Using
AI and IT
will increasingly become part of our daily lives.
What is important at that time
is not to fear AI,
nor to simply leave everything to it.
What can AI do?
What is it bad at?
How will I use it?
Whether or not you can have this perspective
will become a major turning point.
4. Communication Skills | Ability to Convey, Listen, and Connect
In future jobs,
not only the ability to complete tasks alone,
but also the ability to cooperate with others will become increasingly important.
Conveying your own thoughts.
Listening to what others have to say.
Understanding different values.
Connecting with the necessary people.
English proficiency and specialized knowledge
only become a strength once they are conveyed to others.
5. Ability to Take Action | Ability to Try Small Things and Gain Experience
In the coming era,
not everything will have a clear right answer from the start.
That is why
you should try things on a small scale.
If you fail, try changing your approach.
Build your own path while gaining experience.
This ability to take action
will become a strength that supports children in any era.
What parents should look at is not just test scores
Of course,
school studies are important.
Basic academic skills,
reading and writing,
calculation skills,
and acquiring knowledge are all important.
However,
in the coming era,
looking only at test scores may not be enough.
Not just the ability to memorize correct answers, but
the ability to think for oneself.
Not just studying English, but
the ability to communicate in English.
Not just avoiding failure, but
the ability to take on challenges and recover.
Cultivating these abilities
in daily life and learning
will become increasingly important from now on.
The standards for required talent are rising
Looking at the news from this National Intelligence Council,
what I feel as NEXT2035
is not just that "new jobs will increase."
More than that,
the standards for required talent are rising
is what it means.
✅ People who can gather information
✅ People who can analyze
✅ People who can have their own opinions
✅ People who can connect with the world using English and IT
✅ People who can keep learning even amidst change
Such talent
will be increasingly needed from now on.

That is why, for parenting and education,
not just conforming to the "current correct answers,"
keeping an eye on "the ability to live in the society of the future"is
what I think is important.
From now on, "people who can keep growing" will be chosen
The people chosen in the coming era
may not just be the smart ones.
Rather than people who have knowledge,
people who can relearn.
Rather than people who know the correct answers,
people who can pose questions.
Rather than people who do not fail,
people who can recover from failure.
And,
people who can not only fear change,
but expand their own potential within it.
From now on,
people who can keep growingwill be the ones chosen in this era.
Finally
This news
can also be seen as an unsettling change.
But at the same time,
it can also be seen as a hint for thinking about your children's future.
What is important is not to go through life without knowing the changes in the world, but
how you and your child perceive those changes.
And,
what kind of learning you choose from now on, and what kind of experiences you will accumulate.
In this era of educational disparity, what changes the future is
“a parent's ability to gather information.”
At NEXT2035, we will continue to provide perspectives that will help children be able to choose their own future.
