The reason is that
the frame of the screen door aligns with the window frame,
making it harder for gaps to form where bugs can get in.

If you think about it in terms of a cross-section of the window viewed from above,

Outside

Screen door

Left window
↓
Right window
↓
Indoors

That is the correct order 🪟
