Regional Revitalization via Metaverse: Virtual Girl Nem Lecture in Ube
Ube City held a lecture on the night of the 21st on the metaverse (virtual space) featuring 'Virtual Girl Nem,' who is active as a Virtual YouTuber (VTuber). Nem spoke about the culture and business of residents living in the metaverse, as well as the potential for regional revitalization, raising interest in the metaverse among approximately 200 participants who joined online or at Ube Startup in Chuo-cho, Ube City.
Regarding the revolutionary nature of the metaverse, Nem pointed out that avatars allow individuals to freely design their own presence, accelerating essential communication that is not bound by age or gender. She introduced how residents enjoy customizing their avatars like at a hair salon, stating that 'an environment where one can live a life in the metaverse has been established.'
She also touched upon business and regional revitalization. Mentioning the possibility that advertising displays in cities recreated in the metaverse through digital twinning could become a major industry, or that interactions in the metaverse could lead to visits to real-world cities, she emphasized the importance of 'not thinking of reality and the metaverse in contrast, but combining their strengths to create synergy.'
Ube City plans to engage in metaverse-related projects in fiscal year 2023 and held this event to create an opportunity for people to become interested in the metaverse.
