Before and After Books
Hello. This is Mamotaro from the General Affairs Section of the General Affairs Department.
This time, I would like to talk about a book that particularly impressed me.
“To understand is to change.”
It is said that true understanding means that your thoughts and actions change.
Have you ever experienced this?
A book that changed your “perspective” or “way of being” after reading it.
A book that marks a “before and after” in your life.
I would like to introduce three “before and after” books for me.
I have started posting book reviews on note, but I want you to read these three books in their entirety, and my posts would just be filled with unnecessary commentary.
They are books that are difficult to write about, but that I still want to recommend.

[Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies]
This book investigates companies that have survived through the ages and summarizes their common principles.
Although the book is controversial because some of the companies featured later declined...
Don't tell time, build a clock
This concept is what led me to work in general affairs (back office). I often think about “building clocks (systems)” to improve an organization.
[Man's Search for Meaning (New Edition)]
This book is based on the author's experience of being imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. It is heavy content. It is a book about which I cannot write my thoughts lightly.
I want to recommend it, but it is also a book I cannot recommend lightly.
[Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box]
This book offers hints on how self-deception negatively affects human relationships and how to solve it. Although the sensibilities differ between the US and Japan, it is a book that taught me that my “way of being” changes the way I look at people.
Conclusion
Beyond these books, there are manga, novels, movies, travel, daily life, and people.
I am made up of many things piled up.
I believe you are also interpreting the world based on many things piled up within you.
Perhaps posting on note might also change my perspective or way of being in a “before and after note” sense.
I am looking forward to it a little.
What are your “before and after” books?
I would be happy if you could tell me if you would like to.
Thank you for reading.
