President Naoyan's Life: Are You Becoming Someone Who Seeks Sympathy?
Hello everyone!
Today, I am posting on the theme of "people who seek sympathy," which I saw in the online news.
The reason is that today, I was also unconsciously trying to seek sympathy.
Actually, I found some documents this morning that I had promised to submit by the end of July. (lol)
I had completely forgotten about the promise I made at the beginning of July.
At first, I was like,
"Oh no, I messed up..."
"How can I apologize so I don't get yelled at?"
"I was busy in July, after all."
"I'm focused on other things every day, so it can't be helped."
And so on...
My inner voice was desperately trying to protect itself! (lol)
Writing this now, it's so pathetic that I'm actually embarrassed to be exposing it so honestly.
In all honesty,
I was the one who broke the promise, and I felt incredibly frustrated with my past self for having low awareness and putting off the submission of those documents.
And when I imagined my value dropping because of this incident, I was horrified.
If I put myself in the other person's shoes, they might have been waiting in good faith, or they might have lost trust in me and be disgusted.
In that state,
Did I imagine how I would feel if someone said to me, "I was busy in July, so my submission was late," using an excuse to protect themselves and seek my sympathy?
You who are reading this would understand if you were in their shoes, right?
There is no way that would be convincing or make anyone feel good!!
So, by imagining the other person's feelings and how I would feel if it were done to me, I came up with my own answer.
"I'll be honest and apologize!"
I gathered the documents, submitted them by email, and then called them.
I could feel the other person bracing themselves over the phone, but...
Honestly,
・I apologized for not meeting the end-of-July deadline.
・I admitted that I hadn't been focused on the submission documents.
・I acknowledged my own lack of awareness.
・I said that this was an opportunity for me to realize the importance of keeping promises.
・I promised to be conscious and responsible regarding my commitments to people in the future.
・I expressed my gratitude for them making me realize this.
I poured my feelings into it and conveyed everything clearly.
And then...
The other person laughed and said, "Please do better next time." (lol)
Or rather, I think their desire to be angry disappeared.
When I listened closely, it seemed there were others who hadn't met the deadline, but no one else had spoken to them like I did.
It doesn't change the fact that I was in the wrong, but the difference in how I handled it led to this result.
Conversely, I felt strongly that I wanted to build an even better relationship of trust with this person.
Everyone hates being scolded, and no one is perfect.
In fact, it is human nature to find imperfection charming.
However,
Since I know that relationships of trust with others are built on the relationship of trust with oneself,
I have decided to remain honest without making excuses or seeking sympathy.
Because it would only lower my own value...
This time, I made a declaration regarding my future actions.
I will be conscious of and take responsibility for my promises to others.
In this way, every time I make a promise to myself and keep it, I acknowledge myself.
I feel that this is a part of self-growth that is only possible because others are there for me.
While experiencing my negative side, thinking that I don't want to make promises to people so easily from now on, I will connect this to my own self-growth in my own way!
Perhaps there are many times when it is better to be honest and true to yourself than to seek sympathy? (^_-)-☆
Thank you again for today (^^)
