Empathizing with Distant Pain
This morning, I saw a news report on television about the reality of malnutrition and developmental disorders among children in the Gaza Strip.
A child lying on a dusty futon, barely able to keep their eyes open. A father simply staying by their side.
The scene I see through the screen is so far removed from the world around me.
I found myself wondering, is this okay? What about the fate that was dealt to these children?
Currently, I am studying destiny assessment consulting based on imperial studies at the Gotoku Teio Dojo.
I am blessed with wonderful connections, and my days are filled with moving lessons and encounters.
There are many moments when I feel, 'I am so happy.'
But when I see or hear reports like the one this morning, I suddenly come to a halt.
Is it okay for me to just accept this happiness as my own?
Thinking of the people suffering far away makes me feel somewhat apologetic.
However, my way of thinking has changed just a little recently.
I can turn it into 'gratitude and prayer' instead of guilt.
To be someone who is not indifferent to the pain in the world.
And to have the resolve to 'carefully fulfill the role of who I am right here.'
I may not be able to do anything for the children far away right now.
But I can light a lamp myself.
Cherishing the person right in front of me,
cooking a gentle meal,
and warming the space for dialogue,
believing that these will become a 'power to live' somewhere.
Living my life to the fullest.
If that can become a small prayer for the world's pain. Delivering love and gratitude, and honestly receiving love and gratitude myself.
I have no choice but to believe
that this cycle will change society.
Because, in my destiny assessment, the role and mission I chose for this life is to 'connect people to people.'
I want to be a care worker with a wonderful way of being
