Constant Reflection and Trial and Error: Protecting My Own Heart
This time, I would like to talk about the things I keep in mind while doing this caregiving work.
The first thing I have kept in mind throughout my career in caregiving is "reflection and trial and error." I constantly ask myself if my current approach is correct, if this way of speaking will reassure the residents, or if it might actually make them anxious. I never forget the residents' perspective, and I have always avoided using the same approach every time, instead constantly changing my words and the way I provide care. By doing so, I have been able to avoid stagnation and ensure that I am providing proper support.
However, if you keep responding with your absolute best and with complete sincerity, you will eventually get tired and your own heart will break. This can lead to negative outcomes, such as becoming irritated and lashing out.
I believe it is also important to properly protect your own heart.
In my case, I make sure to take a deep breath after giving my all, taking enough time in between before I go back to attending to the residents again.
To continue working, you must also be careful to protect your heart so it does not break. It is important to give your best, but you cannot provide proper care without peace of mind.
I repeat reflection and trial and error regarding my own care, and while I strive to be sincere, I am also careful to protect my own heart.
Caregiving is a profession that can be very difficult at times, but also very enjoyable at others.
I intend to keep doing my best without overexerting myself. That is all. Thank you for reading this far.
