I couldn't stop the tears. And then... I decided to live strongly.
Once upon a time...
In an era when there was a genre called "small theater drama."
Back when I watched "Gekidan☆Shinkansen" in a small hut...
Putting my shoes in a plastic bag and sitting directly on the floor.
Although there were countless theater troupes I liked,
"Otona Keikaku" was one of them.
Kankuro Kudo, known as Kudokan, and Sadao Abe
weren't appearing on major TV programs
that much yet, but
I loved the indescribable worldview of
Suzuki Matsuo, who ran the troupe,
so I went to see their plays whenever I had time.
Decades have passed since then...
I learned that Suzuki Matsuo
was taking on a full-scale musical.
ROHM Theatre Kyoto.
"Welcome to the Quiet Room."

At first,
it was just a fun and entertaining... singing and dancing stage.
That said,
the setting was a special room in a women's closed ward of a psychiatric hospital,
a quite... heavy place.
It is typical of Suzuki Matsuo to direct such a heavy situation
in an amusing way.
Edgy jokes invite laughter.
Live music enhances the singing and dancing.
It's a luxurious lineup.

However...
from the second act,
it approaches the core of the theme with tremendous intensity.
Too shocking... an unexpected development.
Stimulated by the lines that pop out,
my own life that I have lived until now...
starts spinning around like a revolving lantern.
Overlapping pain.
The feelings from that time.
The reviving ache in my chest.
Before I knew it...
I couldn't stop the tears.
Will this play just end like this?
If so, there is no salvation.
However,
that is typical of Matsuo-san.
The greatest masterpiece!!
It was originally a novel by Matsuo-san,
and it is highly acclaimed, having been nominated for the 134th Akutagawa Prize.
Along with the shock of being hit on the head with a hammer,
I felt refreshed by the cleansing tears.
Truly a storm of emotion!
A standing ovation.
The theater was enveloped in thunderous applause.
Until February 11th
at ROHM Theatre Kyoto.
