Reflections on AI and Curiosity

I had an experience that made me reflect a little.
From my curious child,
"What does that mean?"
"Why does it happen like this?"
Whenever I was asked such questions,
partly because I was busy,
"Why don't you ask AI?"
I found myself answering that more and more often.
It is true that
it gives back accurate answers,
and I think it is convenient.
I am sure
I will continue to
be helped by it a lot.
However,
one day, it suddenly occurred to me.
I
thought I was providing answers,
but I might have been
letting go of precious time.
"I wonder why?"
"Shall we look it up together?"
Such
casual exchanges,
the time spent learning things
we didn't know together,
that
might have been
something more important
than knowing the correct answer.
I don't have to
keep AI at a distance.
I will try
using AI together with them.
Then,
"Shall we ask AI too?"
"I see."
"But why do you think that is?"
Conversations like that have increased.
AI knows the answers,
but
the one who can be surprised
or laugh by their side
is surely only a human.
There are busy days,
and there are days when I have no energy to spare.
"Ask AI."
There are days when I want to say that, too.
That is fine.
You don't have to try your best at everything.
It's just that
the time when a child
asks "Why?"
might be shorter than I think.
That is why,
rather than teaching them the answers,
I hope I can cherish the time
we spend tilting our heads in wonder together.
Someday,
before the day comes
when they stop asking "Why?"...
