The Day Meat Is Just a Side
At the farm stand,
I came across a white eggplant with a solid yet gentle presence.
Told that it would be delicious as a steak,
I did just that.
On top of the juicy grilled eggplant,
I placed a runny egg,
and added a single meatball,
the layers of flavor gently unfolding.
A little bit of chopped okra, too.
It mixed into the sauce to create a thickness,
gently coating the grilled eggplant.
Today is a day for the eggplant to do the talking.
The meat is just quietly there, by its side.
Even so, it filled me up completely.
With just one eggplant, both my heart and stomach are full.
If today's dish could gently accompany someone's day,
I would be happy.
I will continue to share these little moments again.
