What is the "Narrative" that is considered important in the AI era?
Everyone, have you had the chance to hear the word "narrative" recently?
In the AI era, something called "narrative" is being considered important.
Literally translated, "narrative = story".
But just being told it's a "story" doesn't really click, does it...?
So this time, I would like to write about what this "narrative" is and why it is important, from my own perspective!
Emotions toward things created by AI
When you come across videos or text created by AI, what kind of emotions do you feel?
At first, you might think, "It's amazing that AI can do something like this!"
But deep down, don't you think, "This is the kind of thing AI would create..."?
For example, Note articles are the same.
I don't deny using AI, but don't you feel a bit let down when you sense an AI vibe somewhere?
Many articles on Note are written using AI, but the articles that are so-called buzzing feel like they reflect human expressive power.
In the future, AI-produced movies and the like will also appear.
And I'm sure the first works will be hits.
However, I suspect that is due to the buzz rather than the content.
Therefore, I think AI-produced movies from the second work onwards will struggle to grow.
The "narrative" that fascinates people
Why can I predict that "AI-produced movies won't sell"?
It is because [they lack a narrative].
To deepen the consideration a little more, let's look at the catchphrases of movies that sell.
・Executive produced by Director XX
・Starring Academy Award-winning actress XX
・The tag team of XX and XX is back!
・Total production cost of XX billion dollars, production period of XX years, etc.
The aim of these kinds of sentences is:
・Ah, if it's a work made by that director, it will surely be interesting this time too.
・That actress had a long struggle, but I'm glad she made it...
・I thought that tag team was having trouble, but I guess that wasn't the case.
・If they spent that much money and time, it must be interesting! etc.
My view is that they are associating the "drama" behind it.
In other words, this drama = narrative (story).
(It's easier for Japanese people to understand if you call it drama, right?)
How can we apply this to our lives?
Now that you have an image of narrative, from here on I would like to think about how to apply it to our lives.
First, to give one easy-to-understand example, part of a narrative is "cost".
For example, if you receive text that is obviously AI-generated from a business partner or a junior at work, you feel a bit fuzzy, right?
In other words, did they create the text by leaving it to AI without spending any cost on themselves...
Then, on the contrary, what about text that includes careful personal consideration even if it's not a big deal?
Even if the writing isn't good, and even if there are some typos, I think you might feel a sense of charm.
Cost is not just time and money.
The cost that only humans can pay is "enthusiasm".
People are attracted to works and stories where "enthusiasm" can be felt.
For example, I wrote this note without using AI.
That is because I wanted you all to experience the "importance of enthusiasm" that I wanted to convey this time.
How was it? If there is anyone who felt it even a little, I think it was worth writing it myself (^^)
In this day and age where the value of "correct answers" and "efficiency" has decreased due to the rise of AI,
like my note this time, "it might be wrong," "it might be inefficient,"
but "enthusiasm is conveyed," "dedication is conveyed."
Why don't you try such activities with me? ٩( 'ω' )و
